This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Software Engineer, (EMW) based in United States.
This remote role combines software engineering, platform development, DevSecOps, automation, and security to evolve a growing workflow application ecosystem. You will support applications used by federal and commercial customers while strengthening the shared platform that enables rapid, AI-assisted application development. The role spans customer delivery, full-stack engineering, infrastructure automation, CI/CD, and security guardrails. You will help ensure that AI-assisted and citizen development can move quickly while maintaining strong controls around authentication, secrets, dependencies, and deployment. The position also offers exposure to on-premises and classified environments, including Linux hosting and hardened infrastructure. This is a hands-on opportunity for a systems-minded engineer who values mission impact, continuous improvement, and secure innovation.
- Support, configure, and extend workflow applications deployed for federal customers, translating customer requirements into reliable and useful features.
- Collaborate with the engineering team to understand customer needs and deliver application enhancements that provide measurable operational value.
- Maintain and evolve the shared application template, ensuring improvements can be consistently propagated across the application fleet.
- Lead or contribute to continuous refactoring, including dependency and library updates, provider migrations, and framework upgrades.
- Design and strengthen security guardrails for AI-assisted and citizen development, including secrets management, token issuance, authentication, and authorization.
- Establish and improve CI/CD checks, code review practices, and other controls that support secure software delivery.
- Automate build, testing, deployment, and operational processes to improve scalability and reduce manual effort.
- Contribute to the deployment of applications in on-premises environments, including Secret and Top Secret environments.
- Support Linux hosting, system hardening, and cross-domain considerations for classified deployments.
- Identify new capabilities that can create value for federal customers and contribute to the evolution of the platform across additional agencies and mission environments.
- Apply security-conscious engineering practices throughout development, infrastructure, deployment, and operational workflows.
- Work effectively with AI coding agents and help establish responsible, repeatable approaches for AI-assisted software development.
- Contribute to quality management and continuous improvement initiatives across engineering and operational processes.
Requirements:
- 7+ years of hands-on experience in software development, DevSecOps, infrastructure automation, systems engineering, or a closely related field.
- Strong Linux experience, including confidence working extensively from the command line.
- Hands-on experience with TypeScript, JavaScript, and modern web frameworks.
- Experience developing with Python or comparable scripting and programming languages.
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code or configuration management tools such as Ansible or Terraform.
- Proven experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Jenkins.
- Working knowledge of cybersecurity practices, including vulnerability management, secrets handling, authentication, authorization, and secure software delivery.
- Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools and coding agents.
- Strong systems-thinking skills, with an understanding of how applications, services, infrastructure, and security controls interact.
- Security-minded approach with attention to input validation, identity management, dependency risks, and supply-chain security.
- Ability to adapt to rapidly evolving development tools and practices and challenge existing approaches when appropriate.
- Mission-oriented mindset with a focus on delivering meaningful value to users rather than simply completing technical tasks.
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent professional experience.
- Active U.S. Top Secret security clearance, with SCI eligibility, is preferred.
- Experience with serverless or edge platforms and SQL databases is preferred.
- Experience supporting Department of War or Intelligence Community mission environments, including classified networks, is a plus.
- Familiarity with Zero Trust architectures or identity providers is preferred.
- Experience with federal cybersecurity compliance frameworks such as RMF, STIGs, or CMMC is a plus.
- Experience working directly with federal customers is preferred.
- Experience with Linux and Docker development is beneficial.
- Must be a U.S. citizen and able to successfully complete required background and drug screening processes.
