This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Sr. Security Engineer based in the United States.
This role offers the opportunity to shape and strengthen security practices within a fast-growing technology environment.
You will work closely with engineering teams to embed security throughout the software development lifecycle and protect critical systems and customer data.
The position focuses on proactive application security, threat modeling, secure architecture, and AI-related security challenges.
You will help build scalable security processes that enable teams to innovate quickly while maintaining strong protection standards.
This role provides significant ownership, allowing you to influence security strategy, tooling, and engineering practices from the ground up.
You will collaborate with internal teams and external security partners to elevate security maturity and reduce risk across the organization.
- Conduct proactive security reviews of new features, architectures, and third-party integrations to identify and address risks before production release.
- Build and improve application and product security practices, including threat modeling, secure design reviews, and secure software development lifecycle integration.
- Define and advance security approaches for AI-powered systems, including protecting AI/ML workflows, managing sensitive data flows, and establishing safe practices for AI development tools.
- Review AI-assisted code contributions and help evolve security policies as AI development technologies continue to mature.
- Partner with engineering teams to investigate and remediate vulnerabilities identified through security assessments, customer feedback, penetration testing, and internal reviews.
- Support security compliance initiatives, including SOC 2 and ISO 27001 programs, by providing technical expertise and engineering guidance.
- Help improve incident response processes, facilitate security exercises, and strengthen organizational readiness.
- Develop internal security tooling, automation, and processes that improve security coverage without slowing engineering delivery.
- Collaborate with external security partners on penetration testing, vendor security assessments, and customer security reviews.
- Influence engineering teams by promoting security best practices while enabling fast, scalable product development.
- 5+ years of experience in security engineering, application security, product security, or a related cybersecurity discipline.
- Proven experience conducting proactive security reviews, including threat modeling, architecture reviews, and secure code assessments for production systems.
- Strong knowledge of web application security, cloud security principles, and modern authentication practices.
- Experience working with cloud environments such as AWS and GCP.
- Ability to read and review code in at least one modern programming language, including Python, Java/Kotlin, or TypeScript.
- Strong understanding of how AI impacts cybersecurity, including emerging risks and opportunities to improve defensive capabilities through AI tooling.
- Experience working effectively in fast-paced environments where prioritization, ownership, and independent decision-making are essential.
- Ability to influence engineering teams and drive security improvements without direct ownership of product roadmaps.
- Experience as an early security hire within a growing organization is a plus.
- Hands-on experience supporting SOC 2 and/or ISO 27001 initiatives is preferred.
- Background in security automation, internal security tooling, open-source security projects, construction technology, geospatial platforms, or computer vision systems is advantageous.
- Competitive base salary range of $180,000 - $230,000 USD depending on location, experience, skills, and qualifications.
