The Fleet Mechanic I maintains and repairs mechanical transportation equipment to aid in the distribution of all company products in a safe manner.
Required Technical Skills:
- Perform basic preventative maintenance inspections and service on mechanical transportation equipment in accordance with the manufacturer’s specifications and company guidelines.Perform basic troubleshooting and minor repair on mechanical transportation equipment including but not limited to electrical systems, powertrain, air, and brake systems, and suspension systems, and maintain fleet tires.Comply with all company work and safety rules and regulatory compliance rules and regulations.Use all personal protective equipment in compliance with OSHA regulations.Possess the necessary personal tools to perform dutiesMust be able to work on mechanical transportation equipment.
Required Soft Skills:
- Must be able to follow both verbal and written instructions.Coachable and willing to learn.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Must be able to work independently without direct supervision and on a team in a fast-paced environment.
Qualifications:
- Ability to read, write, perform basic mathematical calculations, and accurately record data required.Minimum age: 18Must be able to pass a drug screen and physical.
Licenses:
- Must have 1 year certificate from college or technical school experience; or one-year related experience and/or training in general transportation equipment maintenance and repair; or an equivalent combination of continued education and experience.Must have or be able to obtain a Class A or B commercial driver’s license permit within 6 months of hire (must possess a valid Class CDL-A or B and Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with FMCSA Part 391.41 prior to operating a commercial motor vehicle on public roadways).Must have or be able to obtain all EPA licensing and/or certifications consistent with field requirements including but not limited to EPA Clean Air Act Section 608 Type II and EPA Clean Air Act Section 609 MVAC certifications within 3 months.Must have or be able to obtain Brake Inspector Certification as defined in FMCSA Part 396.25 within 3 months.Must have or be able to obtain Annual Inspector Certification as defined in FMCSA Part 396.19 within 3 months.
Physical & Working Conditions:
- Must be able to frequently lift and move 10 pounds and occasionally lift more than 20 pounds.Must be able to work in both very hot or very cold environment for extended periods of time. Exposed to noise. Required to Stand, walk, climb, bend, twist, push and pull, and reach above and below the shoulder.Repetition-Hand/Wrist Simple Grasping, Firm grasping.
*The Garage Diesel Mechanic is an hourly position and reports to the Garage Supervisor and Manager.
