About This Position
Position Highlights:
The Lead Medical Technologist is responsible for the day-to-day technical oversight of departmental operations to ensure that quality standards are consistently maintained. The Lead Medical Technologist also serves as a resource for staff when troubleshooting instrument malfunctions and procedural problems.
The Lead Medical Technologist assists the Laboratory Supervisor with duties related to the supervision of staff; providing input on performance appraisals, addressing performance and conduct related issues with staff, and resolving problems within the department. The Lead Medical Technologist also serves to facilitate communication within and between departments and shifts. Acts as the department supervisor during the absence of the Laboratory Supervisor and exercises wide latitude and independent judgment when planning and organizing their responsibilities.
Performs and reports results of laboratory tests in the areas of routine pathology procedures that may include hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, chemistry, microbiology. Maintains equipment and records; Performs quality control and quality assurance activities; Participates in the evaluation of new procedures and equipment; Writes and revises technical procedures; Trains others; Assists with miscellaneous functions required to maintain the smooth operation of the department such as clerical duties, reagent preparation, and inventory control activities.

Minimum Required:
- Associate’s degree – Medical Technology
- FL State licensed Clinical Laboratory Medical Technologist with specialization in Hematology, Clinical Chemistry, Microbiology, and immunohematology or Serology.
- Three (3) years of experience as a technologist in related pathology field of laboratory
- Knowledge of theory and testing principles related to routine laboratory test procedures. Ability to problem solve and troubleshoot technical problems is required. Ability to adapt positively to change and interact effectively and professionally with others is also required. Leadership skills are required.
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s Degree - Medical Technology
- Additional Medical Technologist Licensure in other specialties
- Previous Lead Tech Exp
