About This Position
The Part-Time Technical Assistant, Theatre Facilities is primarily responsible for supervision and implementation of production elements (lighting, sound, set design and construction, etc.) The Assistant ensures safe-working practices, executes scenic, lighting, and sound designs for performance and event spaces, and assists in preparing for and operating special events in the performance venues in the Cultural Arts District.
Primary Responsibilities
- Manage technical elements for events and performances as needed
- Ensure a safe working environment
- Maintain Theatre equipment and furnishings in good condition and running order
- Operate light and sound boards for events and performances as needed
- Execute designs for Performing Arts Programs within budget and calendar requirements
- Oversee crews for load-in and strike
- Create load-in and strike schedules with the Director of Theatre Facilities and performing departments
- Supervise special events as assigned
- Some clerical and office work may be required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Understand theatrical production methods, ability to maintain a safe working environment in rehearsals and production, ability to operate theatrical equipment, and knowledge of Box Office and Front of House Procedures. Collaboration/Teamwork, Communication (Oral and Written), Interpersonal Skills, Multi-tasking, Organizational Skills, Problem-solving.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Individual Contributor
Work Environment: Loud noises, Indoor settings, and regular work required outside of normal business hours
Physical Demands: Ability to lift, bend, move, and reposition equipment weighing up to 25 pounds. Ability to walk and stand for extended periods.
Travel Required: No
If travel is required, the candidate must have and maintain a current, valid Texas driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.Required Education
High school diploma or equivalent
Preferred Education/Experience
Theatrical background and technical skills
Familiarity with ETC Lighting Consoles
Familiarity with Digital Sound Consoles
Familiarity with a single-purchase fly system
EXPECTATIONS
- Preform other duties as assigned.
- Will have contact – in person, by email, or by phone – with staff, students, and the general public.

- Must have reliable transportation including nights and weekends.
