Job Summary
Nak’azdli Whut’en (Nak’azdli), through the Nak’azdli / Mount Milligan HR Liaison Officer, is responsible for fostering and maintaining a positive working relationship between Nak’azdli and the Company. This role ensures that commitments outlined in the Impact Benefit Agreement (IBA), particularly those related to Employment and Training at the Mount Milligan Mine, are effectively implemented and upheld.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Relationship & Liaison Support
- Build and maintain strong relationships with Nak’azdli community members to improve access to training and employment opportunities.
- Act as a liaison between Nak’azdli and the Company to support collaboration and communication.
- Coordinate and support meetings between the Company, Nak’azdli Administration, and Chief & Council
- Facilitate Nak’azdli participation in permitting and other mine-related activities, as required.
- Promote community engagement by supporting Company participation in Nak’azdli events
Impact Benefit Agreement (IBA) Implementation
- Support the implementation of Employment and Training commitments outlined in the IBA.
- Coordinate IBA meetings, documentation, and reporting requirements
- Develop and implement an annual work plan, including regular reporting to the community, COO, and Director of Education & Language.
Employment & Training Coordination
- Collaborate with the Company’s HR Department to identify employment opportunities for Nak’azdli members.
- Liaise with training providers (e.g., Mount Milligan, contractors, and regional organizations) to support workforce development.
- Develop and implement communication strategies to promote job opportunities within the community.
- Organize and facilitate information sessions, workshops, and open houses.
- Assist community members with job applications, career planning, and access to funding opportunities.
- Maintain a database of qualified and available community members for employment.
Employee Support & Advocacy
- Meet with employees (on-site and in the community) to address employment-related concerns.
- Provide guidance on Company HR policies, procedures, and expectations.
- Advocate for Nak’azdli members in workplace matters, including supporting investigations when required.
- Identify and help address barriers to Indigenous employment and training.
Training & Cultural Awareness
- Support the development and delivery of Company training programs for Nak’azdli members.
- Assist in delivering cultural awareness training, including Nak’azdli-specific history and cultural content.
- Promote cultural diversity initiatives and events within the Company.
Reporting & Administration
- Prepare and submit monthly reports detailing activities and outcomes to relevant stakeholders.
- Track employment and training metrics aligned with IBA commitments.
- Review and provide input on Company HR policies impacting employees.
Additional Duties
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Education & Language.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Diploma or degree in Human Resources Management or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational and project management abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Demonstrated professionalism, diplomacy, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong work ethic and ability to work collaboratively.
- Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License.
Working Conditions
- Frequent travel to the Mount Milligan mine site.
- Flexible work schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends.
- Travel to remote locations with extended or variable hours may be required.
- Transportation (from Fort St. James or Prince George) and accommodations at the mine site are provided by the operator.
- Manual dexterity is required to use desktop computers and peripherals.
Hours of Work
This is a salaried position and not eligible for overtime. Regular hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM; however, flexibility is required to meet operational needs, including travel and occasional work outside regular hours
