JFCS East Bay partners with our clients, staff, and community to pursue justice, promote healing, and advocate for meaningful change. We are an innovative social service agency and community-based organization that has served individuals and families throughout Alameda and Contra Costa counties since 1877. We reunite and strengthen families, care for the mental and physical health needs of people impacted by trauma, support healthy relationships between young children and their caregivers, provide legal representation to immigrants, and resettle refugees who seek to start their lives anew.   • JOB SUMMARY

    The Marketing & Communications Manager leads the development and execution of marketing, communications, and storytelling initiatives that advance organizational goals and strengthen brand reputation. In partnership with leadership and key stakeholders, this role identifies, develops, and communicates compelling stories that reflect the organization's mission, culture, strategic priorities, and impact. The position serves as a key communications advisor and content leader, ensuring consistent messaging and effective engagement across internal and external audiences.

    This position reports to the Chief Development Officer and operates in a hybrid work environment. The primary office location is in Alameda County until 2027, when it will transition to our Contra Costa Office in Concord. Hybrid work arrangements include a combination of in-office and remote work based on organizational and operational needs.

    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

    1. Marketing, Communications & Community Engagement

  • Execute marketing and communications plans that increase awareness of programs, services, advocacy initiatives, fundraising efforts, and organizational priorities.
  • Support audience segmentation and targeted outreach strategies to strengthen engagement across diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Coordinate communications for campaigns, events, advocacy efforts, and community engagement activities.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure messaging is consistent, mission-aligned, and reflective of organizational values.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to strengthen community participation and advocacy through targeted communications, outreach campaigns, and stakeholder engagement strategies.
  • 2. Storytelling, Content Development & Brand Visibility

  • Develop, create, and distribute compelling content that highlights organizational impact, strategic priorities, and community outcomes.
  • Coordinate the collection of stories, testimonials, and program content using ethical and trauma-informed storytelling practices.
  • Adapt and repurpose content across digital, print, social media, email, and multimedia platforms.
  • Maintain a consistent communications calendar and content schedule across channels.
  • Lead proactive media outreach efforts by identifying compelling stories, developing media pitches, building relationships with reporters, and securing earned media coverage that advances organizational goals and community awareness.
  • 3. Donor, Stakeholder & Leadership Communications

  • Execute fundraising and stewardship communications, including donor appeals, newsletters, event promotions, and stakeholder updates.
  • Draft donor, funder, and community-facing communications that strengthen engagement and support organizational goals.
  • Prepare talking points, statements, presentations, and communications materials for leadership.
  • Support consistent internal and external communications and collaborate with leadership on crisis and issue-related communications.
  • 4. Communications Operations, Digital Marketing & Project Management

  • Manage communications projects, timelines, workflows, and deliverables to ensure effective execution of marketing and communications initiatives.
  • Coordinate the development and production of communications materials and collateral.
  • Utilize communications and digital marketing tools to support campaign implementation and increase audience engagement.
  • Monitor marketing and communications performance metrics and recommend improvements to increase effectiveness and impact.
  • REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • 4-6 years of experience in communications, marketing, or impact storytelling.
  • Experience building brands and audiences through multimedia digital communications.
  • Strong writing and editing skills.
  • Experience in project management, service marketing, and impact storytelling.
  • Understanding digital marketing strategy.
  • Experience communicating with diverse communities.
  • Experience implementing communications campaigns across digital, print, website, email, and social media platforms.
  • Experience supporting fundraising communications and donor engagement efforts.
  • Experience managing website content using a content management system (CMS).
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Highly collaborative.
  • Exceptional communication skills.
  • Ability to manage complex workflows.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, WordPress, email platforms, and marketing automation.

  • COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

    The salary range for this position is $80,000 to $115,200, with an anticipated starting range of $80,000–$96,000.
