Job Description
For more than 60 years, Tyndale has helped readers discover the life-giving truths of God’s Word. Today we’re one of the largest independently owned Christian publishers in the world. Though our business has grown, our mission remains the same: to open God’s Word to as many as possible in language they can relate to and understand.
Our Editorial Spanish Team exists to bring biblically faithful, beautifully crafted books and Bibles to Spanish-speaking readers around the world. We work closely with authors, translators, and copyeditors, and we take seriously both the craft of editing and the calling behind it — building camaraderie, confidence, and cooperation as we pursue excellence together.
As Spanish Editor and Team Leader, you'll shape the editorial future of Tyndale's Spanish publishing program — leading a team of editors while personally guiding manuscripts from first review to final galley. This role calls for someone who can hold the big picture of a publishing list while staying attentive to the details that make a translated Bible or book trustworthy and readable. It's a chance to mentor other editors, build lasting author relationships, and ensure God's Word reaches Spanish-speaking readers with clarity and integrity.
What You'll Do
- Lead and develop the Editorial Spanish Team, conducting regular performance appraisals and building a culture of collaboration, direction, and mutual encouragement.
- Guide Spanish books and Bibles from manuscript through publication, coordinating with in-house and freelance translators, editors, and copyeditors to keep every project on schedule and true to Tyndale's editorial standards.
- Serve as the primary liaison between the Editorial Spanish Team and Spanish Publishing, Special Sales, and other Publishing Services teams to keep schedules, expectations, and communication aligned.
- Own the manuscript editing process end-to-end — from evaluating unedited manuscripts and providing developmental feedback to authors, to preparing style sheets and approving copyedited changes.
- Recruit, hire, and train new Spanish Team editors and copyeditors, and manage relationships with freelancers to keep workloads balanced and quality high.
- Evaluate emerging technologies, including AI tools, for their potential to strengthen Spanish editorial work.
- Represent Tyndale and the Spanish Team at professional conventions, building relationships with authors, partners, and industry contacts.
Skills and Qualifications Needed
- College degree or equivalent relevant editorial experience
- Five or more years of experience in editorial work, ideally including team leadership
- Excellent command of both English and Spanish
- Thorough knowledge of the Bible and evangelical Christian thought
- Strong editorial and aesthetic judgment, with the ability to manage the complexities of writing, translation, and editing
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to give clear author feedback
- Proven ability to lead a team: setting direction, developing people, and managing workload and conflict well
- Comfort with computer word processing and manuscript-tagging tools
- Personal alignment with and adherence to the Bible as God's Word, and agreement with our Statement of Faith
After an initial training period, this role is open to a hybrid work schedule, which means you'll be given the flexibility to split time between working from home and in the office.
