Human Resources Generalist

Pay Range: $30.00 - $37.50 per hour

Location: Kirkland, WA-Hybrid

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Hourly

Union Status: Non-Union

Reports To: Senior Director of Human Resources

This role offers a unique opportunity to gain exposure to a wide variety of Human Resources functions, including employee relations, leave administration, benefits, recruitment, onboarding, compliance, accommodations, and HR operations. The Human Resources Generalist serves as a trusted resource to employees and leaders while helping advance the agency's mission of supporting youth and families throughout our community.

What You'll DoLeave and Accommodation Administration
  • Administer FMLA, Washington Paid Family & Medical Leave (PFML), workers' compensation, and other protected leave programs.
  • Coordinate and track accommodation requests under the ADA and applicable state laws.
  • Maintain accurate leave records, documentation, and employee communications.
  • Serve as a resource to employees and managers regarding leave and accommodation processes.
Benefits Administration
  • Manage benefit enrollments, changes, terminations, and COBRA administration.
  • Assist with benefit billing reconciliation and reporting.
  • Partner with benefit vendors and brokers to resolve employee questions and issues.
  • Support employee education and communication regarding benefit programs.
Compliance and Human Resources Operations
  • Maintain employee personnel files and HR records.
  • Track professional licenses, certifications, and continuing education requirements.
  • Support agency audits, accreditation activities, and compliance initiatives.
  • Assist with DCYF background checks, rosters, relicensing activities, OSHA reporting, EEO-1 reporting, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Administer employee recognition and service award programs.
  • Maintain employee identification badges and employment verification requests.
  • Support HRIS administration, reporting, troubleshooting, and data integrity efforts.
Recruitment, Onboarding, and Offboarding
  • Coordinate and facilitate new hire onboarding and orientation.
  • Manage pre-employment requirements and onboarding documentation.
  • Assist with recruitment efforts, including job postings, sourcing, screening, interview scheduling, and candidate communication.
  • Coordinate internal transfers and employee offboarding activities.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives and HR project work.
QualificationsEducation and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of Human Resources experience or related professional experience.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal employment laws.
  • Experience working with Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS).
  • Experience in a nonprofit environment preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 and related business applications preferred.
Additional Requirements
  • Must satisfactorily pass a criminal history background check.
  • Must satisfactorily pass a tuberculosis (TB) screening.
  • Must have reliable transportation and a valid Washington State driver's license (or be able to obtain one by date of employment).
  • Must maintain a safe driving record and required auto insurance if operating a personal vehicle for agency business.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong understanding of FMLA, ADA, HIPAA, Washington PFML, benefits administration, and employment law.
  • Ability to manage confidential and sensitive information with professionalism and discretion.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to explain complex HR concepts in a clear and supportive manner.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and HR technology systems.
