Job Description

The American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy "AAMFT" is headquartered in Alexandria. VA. AAMFT supports marriage and family therapists by providing training, accreditation, advocacy, and resources that promote ethical and effective therapeutic practices. The organization enhances the well-being of individuals, couples, families, and communities by promoting the profession and facilitating the professional development of its members.

AAMFT is looking for a Governance and Leadership Manager. The Governance and Leadership Manager is responsible for overseeing programs, processes, and initiatives that support governance operations, volunteer engagement, leadership development, and the effectiveness of Interest Networks. This role helps ensure strong coordination across volunteer structures, clear governance practices, and meaningful opportunities for member participation and leadership. Key responsibilities include governance and leadership support, program management, cross-departmental collaboration, and reporting and analysis. Additional responsibilities include managing interest network finances, updating the interest network program leader library, serving as a liaison between AAMFT staff and interest network leaders, and participating in strategic planning meetings. Some travel (including weekends) is required.

Skills and Qualifications
  • Strong strategic thinking and project management skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Proficiency in project management software and data analysis tools.
  • Experience in program management or development within a nonprofit or association context.
  • Experience supporting boards, committees, or governance bodies within an association, nonprofit, or similar environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple timelines, priorities, and stakeholder groups simultaneously with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion, professionalism, and sound judgment.
