Job Description
SUMMARY: Supervises and coordinates the activities of workers engaged in producing custom thermoplastic extrusions by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
Other duties may be assigned.
- Oversees production on all extrusion lines. This includes quality control, coordinating manpower and material requirements on the shift, monitoring output, and managing time and equipment.
- Studies production schedules and estimates worker hour requirements for completion of job assignments.
- Interprets company policy to workers on the shift pertaining to such things as overtime, absenteeism, tardiness, and alcohol or drug use on the job, and enforces safety regulations.
- Responsible for the welfare of employees on the shift, including breaks, general safety, making recommendations on working conditions, and administering decisions pertaining to health and safety.
- Interprets specifications, blueprints, and job orders to workers and assigns duties.
- Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules.
- Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
- Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase the efficiency of the shop, department, or work crew.
- Analyzes and resolves work problems or assists workers in solving work problems.
- Confers with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments.
- Works with workers to set up machines and equipment.
- Performs activities of workers supervised when required.
- Responsible for monitoring the job performance of each worker on the shift and evaluating each one formally (at a set time period) or informally (as needed), whether or not the evaluation involves praise or criticism or both.
- Responsible for on-the-job training of new employees on the shift, following guidelines set up by management.
- Ability to get along with others.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Manufacturing experience necessary.LANGUAGE SKILLS:Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.REASONING ABILITY:Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.COMPUTER SKILLS:Able to learn basic computer operations.PHYSICAL DEMANDS:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
