Wages
$75,000 - $80,000 annual salary, depending on qualifications & experience.

Job Summary
The Finance Director serves as the strategic financial leader for Hallie Q. Brown Community Center, guiding the organization’s financial health, sustainability, and growth. This role partners closely with the Executive Director and leadership team to support mission-driven impact through strong fiscal stewardship and operational excellence.
Responsibilities will include the following:
- Lead financial strategy, including multi-year forecasting, scenario planning, and organizational performance analysis.
- Provide clear, actionable financial insights to executive leadership, the Board of Directors, and Finance Committee.
- Oversee budgeting, financial reporting, cash management, payroll, and audit processes.
- Ensure full compliance with GAAP, grant requirements, government contracts, and regulatory standards.
- Direct annual audit and all required filings (Form 990, state and federal reporting, tax, compliance documentation).
- Strengthen internal controls, risk management practices, and financial oversight systems.
- Partner with program teams to support grant budgeting, reporting, and restricted funding management.
- Collaborate with Advancement to align financial strategy with fundraising goals.
- Drive continuous improvement of financial systems, tools, and operational processes.
- Develop user-friendly processes that promote transparency, compliance, and financial accountability.
- Educate and support staff in managing budgets and building financial stewardship across the organization.
- Serve as a key member of the Senior Leadership Team and contribute to organizational strategy and growth.
- Represent Hallie Q. Brown in the community, with partners, and at organizational events.
Who You Are
- You have a bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- You have 5+ years of experience in a senior financial role, preferably in a nonprofit environment.
- You have 5+ years of leadership or management experience in finance, operations, or administration.
- You have strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting (GAAP), internal controls, and financial compliance.
- You have proven experience managing complex budgets, multiple funding streams, government contracts, and grants.
- You have strong financial analysis and forecasting skills, with the ability to translate data into strategic insights.
- You have experience managing audits, regulatory filings, and risk management practices.
- You have familiarity with financial systems, reporting tools, and process improvement.
- You are a strong communicator with the ability to present financial information clearly and persuasively.
- You are highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- You are comfortable working independently while collaborating across diverse teams.
- You are committed to equity, community impact, and preserving the legacy of Hallie Q. Brown.
- You have knowledge of the Rondo community (preferred).
- You have proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and financial or accounting systems.
- You have a valid driver’s license, access to reliable transportation, and the ability to meet Hallie Q. Brown’s driving record requirements. Please note that if the license was not issued in the state of Minnesota, you have 60 days after becoming a Minnesota resident in which to apply for your Minnesota driver's license or permit (not applicable for new hires living out of state).
