Position Summary:
The Department of Ophthalmology andVisual Sciences at the University of New Mexico (UNM) Health Sciences Center isexpanding and seeks an outstanding corneal surgeon to join our rapidly growingacademic department.
Applicants must have completed anaccredited cornea and external disease fellowship. The successful candidate will join acollaborative and dynamic ophthalmology service dedicated to providingcomprehensive cornea and external disease care to the patients of New Mexico andthe surrounding region. As part of theUNM Health System, the Eye Clinic provides a rewarding mix of tertiary andsafety-net care with a broad spectrum of complex corneal, ocular surface, andanterior segment pathology. The incomingsurgeon will have the opportunity to develop a busy clinical and surgicalpractice with significant opportunities for growth in corneal transplantation,complex anterior segment surgery, ocular surface reconstruction, and advancedcorneal disease management. Thecandidate will share call responsibilities with existing faculty and activelyparticipate in resident and medical student education.
Our department has recentlyestablished a three-resident-per-class ophthalmology residency program andcontinues to experience significant growth. The successful candidate will have a uniqueopportunity to make an immediate impact in a state with a significant need forspecialized cornea services while developing and expanding advanced surgicalskills early in their career. Candidatesare expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to outstanding patient care,teaching, and research within an academic setting. Opportunities for clinical research andclinical trial participation are available, supported by a growing researchinfrastructure that includes dedicated research coordinators, technicians, andfaculty collaborators.
