Director, Information Technology (Government Solutions)
This role requires experience delivering or advising on technology solutions for federal or state government clients.
As Director of Information Technology, you’ll lead Altarum’s enterprise IT function while also advising on technology solutions for federal and state government clients. This is a dual-mandate leadership role: part enterprise IT executive, part client-facing technical advisor.

- Lead internal IT operations, including infrastructure, cloud environments, enterprise systems, helpdesk support, business continuity, and vendor management
- Evaluate service delivery models and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, modernization, and user experience
- Manage IT budgets, resource allocation, vendors, service priorities, and financial accountability
- Build, develop, and manage a high-performing IT team focused on service delivery, governance, security, and technical partnership
- Own information security, compliance, and risk management practices across the organization
- Support and maintain required security certifications, authorizations, audits, documentation, and testing
- Stay ahead of regulatory, compliance, and certification changes and build readiness plans
- Partner with General Counsel in co-leading Altarum’s Security Assessment Group
- Guide responsible AI adoption, including governance, acceptable use, data privacy, vendor risk, and practical implementation
- Partner with business and project leaders to scope, evaluate, and support client-facing IT solutions for government clients
- Advise on architecture, security, compliance, scalability, integration, and long-term sustainability
- Serve as a flexible technical thought partner, shifting between advisory, hands-on, and oversight roles as needed
- Support proposals and business development by contributing technical approaches, solution considerations, risk assumptions, and cost inputs
- Offer creative, practical alternatives when standard technology approaches do not fit client constraints, budgets, or delivery needs
We’re looking for a senior IT leader who brings strong technical judgment, business acumen, and the ability to lead across a complex, mission-driven organization.

- Strategic, practical, and able to connect technology decisions to business and mission outcomes
- Experienced leading enterprise IT operations in a secure, compliance-driven environment
- Comfortable operating in both internal leadership and client-facing advisory roles
- Strong in information security, governance, risk management, and technology modernization
- Able to lead through influence in a matrixed, multi-division environment
- A clear communicator who can translate complex technical concepts for business, legal, operational, and client audiences
- Flexible, collaborative, and comfortable balancing competing priorities and trade-offs
Committed to responsible, secure, and mission-aligned technology adoption
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field; master’s degree preferred
- 10+ years of progressive IT leadership experience, including 5+ years in a senior or director-level role
- Must have experience delivering or advising on technology solutions for federal or state government clients
- Strong knowledge of information security and compliance frameworks relevant to public-sector or health-related work
- Experience with AI/ML strategy, governance, or responsible adoption in an organizational setting
- Experience managing cloud platforms, enterprise systems, IT service delivery, cybersecurity operations, and modern technology governance practices
- Familiarity with DevSecOps concepts
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams in a matrixed, multi-division environment
Preferred qualifications include:
- Experience in nonprofit or healthcare environments
- Familiarity with health data standards or interoperability frameworks such as FHIR, HL7, or USCDI
- Relevant certifications such as CISSP, CISM, PMP, AWS, Azure, or equivalent credentials

- These days are filled with creative energy, meaningful connection, and team brainstorming.
- Non-local employees will join these days virtually and may be asked to join us occasionally in-person.
- Candidates must be currently eligible to work in the United States; sponsorship is not available.
- All work must be performed within the continental U.S. for the duration of employment, unless required by contract.
- Ability to work core hours aligned with Eastern Time, unless otherwise approved by your manager.
- Remote employees must maintain a dedicated, ergonomically appropriate workspace free from distractions, with reliable internet and a mobile device that supports efficient work.

$199,831 - $241,175.55 a year
