Job Title: Equipment Engineering Lead

Department: Engineering

Work Schedule: Full time, in a production environment

Job Overview:

The Equipment Engineering Lead is part of a team of leading experts who pride themselves on grit, integrity, ownership, and innovation. This role leads and manages a team of engineers and technicians as they design and engineer standard and custom high-containment equipment, applying engineering best practices and tools throughout the product development lifecycle.The Equipment Engineering Lead provides leadership in design analysis, including all aspects of product design criteria, product function, manufacturability, cost, and customer needs. The role leads product design verification and validation to satisfy product, regulatory, and customer requirements and is accountable for the technical execution and engineering quality of assigned equipment programs.This role maintains a team of high-performing engineers and technicians, continually seeking practical and innovative methods for creating quality products, improving team performance, increasing standardization, and achieving project and product profitability, while ensuring the team supports the commitments the company has made to its customers.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Lead and develop the equipment engineering team, establishing clear priorities, accountability, and disciplined use of engineering best practices.
  • Own the technical execution, engineering quality, and product performance of assigned standard and custom equipment programs from concept through production release and customer delivery support.
  • Provide technical direction and coordinate system design across mechanical, electrical, controls, airflow, and related interfaces.
  • Partner with Project Management, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Service, and Sales to clarify requirements, manage risk, and ensure designs are executable.
  • Drive timely design reviews, production-ready releases, accurate documentation, configuration control, and effective engineering change management.
  • Identify and resolve technical risks and problems using structured methods such as DFMEA, PFMEA, root cause analysis, testing, and design verification and validation.
  • Ensure designs meet requirements for safety, reliability, functionality, manufacturability, serviceability, cost, and applicable customer and regulatory standards.
  • Lead Design for Manufacturing and Assembly activities and work directly with production to reduce engineering-driven rework and improve build execution.
  • Prepare and review conceptual designs, solid models, drawings, BOMs, specifications, and other technical documentation for standard and custom equipment.
  • Drive component and design standardization, reuse, and lifecycle management while appropriately controlling customer-specific requirements.
  • Support technical customer reviews, FAT readiness, commissioning, customer acceptance, and resolution of field or production issues as required.
  • Plan and allocate engineering resources across multiple priorities to support schedule commitments, team capacity, and project profitability.
  • Monitor engineering performance, including schedule adherence, release quality, change activity, rework, and standardization, and implement recovery actions when needed.
  • Build a capable and collaborative team through regular 1:1s, coaching, technical development, constructive feedback, and peer leadership.
  • Adhere to company quality standards, meet required deadlines, and proactively communicate technical risks, trade-offs, and recovery plans.
  • Other reasonably related duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Mechanical Designer level with a working knowledge of basic mechanical design
  • Demonstrated experience leading engineers, designers, or technicians in a product development, capital equipment, or engineered-to-order manufacturing environment.
  • Experience designing components and systems for manufacturability, assembly, reliability, and cost effectiveness.
  • Strong technical foundation in equipment or product development, including mechanical design and coordination with electrical, controls, and system interfaces.
  • Experience with CAD and solid-modeling tools and reviewing production drawings, BOMs, specifications, and engineering documentation.
  • Working knowledge of design reviews, engineering change control, risk analysis, verification and validation, and structured problem solving.
  • Ability to balance technical rigor with schedule, cost, customer requirements, and production realities.
  • Ability to influence across functions, resolve conflict, foster collaboration, and clearly communicate technical decisions and risks.
  • Experience with high-containment equipment, cleanroom or life-science systems, regulated products, HVAC/airflow, stainless fabrication, or similar engineered systems is preferred but not required.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical) or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
