Job Description
Commercial Doors, Hardware & Specialty Products
We're hiring an Outside Aftermarket Sales Consultant to develop new business and grow relationships with commercial building owners, facility managers, property managers, contractors, schools, healthcare facilities, municipalities, and other organizations throughout our market.
This is a field-based sales position focused on existing commercial building, not simply waiting for bid invitations. You will identify repair, replacement, upgrade, and renovation opportunities; evaluate customer needs; develop practical solutions; prepare proposals; and close profitable work involving Division 08 and Division 10 products.
We are looking for a driven, organized professional who can build relationships, find opportunities, follow through, and turn customer problems into profitable solutions.
What You Will Sell
Products and services may include:
- Commercial doors and frames
- Architectural door hardware
- Automatic door operators
- Electrified hardware and access-control upgrades
- Lock, keying, and security improvements
- Restroom partitions and accessories
- Lockers, signage, fire extinguisher cabinets, wall protection, and other Division 10 specialties
- Repairs, replacements, renovations, and facility upgrades
- Preventive maintenance and ongoing facility-support opportunities
What You Will Do
- Prospect for new customers and develop a consistent pipeline of qualified opportunities
- Build relationships with facility managers, property managers, owners, general contractors, maintenance departments, architects, and other decision-makers
- Visit customer facilities and job sites to evaluate existing conditions
- Identify worn, damaged, outdated, unsafe, or nonfunctioning products and recommend appropriate solutions
- Measure openings, document site conditions, take photographs, and gather the information needed to price the work accurately
- Prepare clear proposals with defined scope, exclusions, pricing, and customer responsibilities
- Follow up consistently on open proposals and actively ask for the order
- Sell based on value, service, reliability, and technical capability—not price alone
- Coordinate with WKC estimating, purchasing, project management, service, warehouse, and installation teams
- Provide a complete and accurate handoff after the sale
- Identify changes and additional work before committing WKC to added cost
- Maintain accurate customer, opportunity, proposal, and follow-up information in WKC’s systems
- Monitor sales activity, backlog, gross margin, close rate, and account development
- Resolve customer concerns professionally while protecting WKC’s scope, margin, and reputation
- Represent WKC professionally at customer locations, association events, trade functions, and community activities
What Success Looks Like
Successful Outside Aftermarket Sales Consultants at WKC:
- Create opportunities instead of waiting for leads
- Spend meaningful time in front of customers
- Develop repeat business and long-term accounts
- Understand the customer’s facility and operational needs
- Follow up until a clear decision is made
- Prepare accurate scopes and avoid costly surprises
- Protect gross margin
- Communicate internally before making commitments
- Keep their pipeline organized and current
- Take ownership from the first conversation through the final handoff
What We Are Looking For
- Outside sales, construction sales, facility-services, commercial building-products, or related experience preferred
- Knowledge of commercial doors, frames, hardware, access control, or Division 10 specialties is strongly preferred
- Ability to inspect existing conditions and identify practical repair, replacement, and upgrade solutions
- Ability to read basic plans, specifications, product information, and field measurements
- Strong prospecting, relationship-building, presentation, negotiation, and closing skills
- Professional written and verbal communication
- Strong organization and consistent follow-through
- Ability to manage multiple customers, proposals, and deadlines
- Comfort working independently in the field while remaining accountable to sales goals
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and customer-management systems
- Valid driver’s license and driving record acceptable to WKC and its insurance carrier
- Ability to visit active facilities and construction sites and comply with applicable safety requirements
The Right Person for This Role
You may be a strong fit if you:
- Enjoy meeting people and building business relationships
- Notice problems others overlook
- Are comfortable walking into a facility, asking questions, and uncovering needs
- Can explain technical products in a practical way
- Do not need to be reminded to follow up
- Understand that profitable sales require accurate scope and good communication
- Want a role where your effort directly affects your results
