Principal, Legal Financial Operations

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Principal, Legal Financial Operations based in United States.

This is a highly visible, strategic individual contributor role focused on strengthening the financial operating model of a complex Legal organization. You will lead budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and financial governance while providing actionable insights to senior Legal leadership. The role combines financial expertise with Legal Operations, helping improve transparency around legal spend and operational performance. You’ll work closely with Finance, Accounting, Risk Management, and other enterprise stakeholders to support informed resource and investment decisions. You’ll also help leverage legal technology and e-billing platforms to improve analytics and operational efficiency. The environment is collaborative, enterprise-wide, and focused on continuous improvement. This opportunity is well suited to a seasoned financial professional who can translate complex data into clear business recommendations and scalable processes.

Accountabilities
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, accrual, and annual financial planning activities for the Legal organization, ensuring disciplined and accurate financial management.
  • Develop financial reports, dashboards, and analytics that provide meaningful visibility into legal spend, trends, and operational performance.
  • Partner with Legal leadership and enterprise stakeholders to deliver financial analysis, recommendations, and insights that support strategic decision-making.
  • Monitor financial performance, identify emerging trends, and support resource planning and allocation decisions.
  • Establish and maintain financial governance processes that improve the accuracy, consistency, transparency, and reliability of Legal financial data.
  • Leverage Enterprise Legal Management (ELM) and e-billing technologies to strengthen reporting, analytics, spend management, and operational decision-making.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives that simplify, standardize, and enhance financial and operational processes.
  • Contribute to strategic Legal Operations initiatives, special projects, and other priorities requiring strong financial and analytical expertise.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, Legal Operations, or a related discipline.
  • 8+ years of experience in Legal Operations, financial planning and analysis, business operations, financial operations, accounting, or a related field.
  • Strong experience with Legal Operations, legal spend management, budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and financial analytics is highly desirable.
  • Candidates with significant financial or business operations experience within complex enterprise environments will also be considered.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to interpret complex financial information and turn it into actionable insights.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at multiple levels of an organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders, provide sound recommendations, and build trusted relationships across functions.
  • Experience collaborating with Legal, Finance, Accounting, Risk Management, and other cross-functional teams.
  • Hands-on experience with Enterprise Legal Management and e-billing platforms such as TeamConnect, Collaborati, CounselLink, Legal Tracker, or comparable technologies.
  • MBA, CPA, CMA, or another relevant professional certification is a plus.
  • Ability to work effectively in a remote environment with reliable cable broadband or fiber internet providing at least 10 Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload speeds.
  • Candidates should be comfortable operating as a strategic individual contributor with significant enterprise-wide responsibility.

  • Annual salary range of $130,100–$216,900 USD, depending on experience, qualifications, and geographic location.
