Bookkeeping Specialist

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Bookkeeping Specialist based in Canada.

This part-time remote role is ideal for an experienced bookkeeping professional who enjoys combining financial accuracy with client partnership.
You will support multiple clients across their day-to-day bookkeeping and financial operations, ensuring records are complete, accurate, and timely.
The position covers a broad range of responsibilities, including accounts payable and receivable, reconciliations, payroll, reporting, journal entries, and month-end processes.
You’ll work closely with clients to understand their businesses and translate financial activity into reliable, decision-ready information.
Success in this role requires strong accounting fundamentals, excellent organization, technological confidence, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
You’ll join a collaborative, mission-driven remote team where communication, accountability, and continuous improvement are highly valued.
The role offers the opportunity to make a tangible impact by helping businesses strengthen their financial operations and make better data-driven decisions.

Accountabilities
  • Support clients with full-cycle bookkeeping activities, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, bank reconciliations, payroll, journal entries, and financial reporting.

  • Maintain accurate and complete financial records while ensuring accounting deadlines and month-end requirements are consistently met.

  • Prepare and interpret financial statements, including balance sheets, profit and loss statements, cash-flow reports, and related financial information.

  • Apply a strong understanding of cash versus accrual accounting and fundamental bookkeeping principles across multiple client accounts.

  • Work directly with clients to understand their bookkeeping requirements, answer questions, resolve issues, and provide dependable financial support.

  • Help streamline month-end and year-end processes by identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, documentation, and organization.

  • Assist with compiling client information required for tax preparation, including relevant reports and supporting documentation.

  • Research accounting questions and determine appropriate solutions or efficient ways to complete work within client systems.

  • Help organize, systematize, and document bookkeeping processes and procedures.

  • Proactively identify issues, risks, and opportunities that could affect client relationships or improve financial operations.

  • Collaborate with colleagues and management, communicating status updates, challenges, and opportunities while escalating issues when additional guidance is needed.

  • Manage multiple projects, clients, and priorities with a high level of organization, reliability, and attention to detail.

  • Perform additional bookkeeping and operational duties as required.

Requirements
  • 10+ years of professional bookkeeping experience, including significant full-charge bookkeeping experience across multiple clients.

  • Demonstrated experience with both Canadian and U.S. bookkeeping practices, including inventory accounting.

  • Strong knowledge of accounting fundamentals, financial reporting, reconciliations, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash and accrual accounting.

  • Experience using bookkeeping and accounting platforms such as QuickBooks Online/Desktop, Xero, FreshBooks, Sage, NetSuite, Wave, Intacct, or similar systems.

  • Strong ability to create, understand, and interpret financial reports and translate financial information into meaningful business insights.

  • High level of technological proficiency and the ability to quickly learn new accounting, office, and collaboration tools.

  • Experience with Google Workspace, Slack, Asana, or comparable productivity and communication platforms.

  • A two-year accounting degree is preferred; relevant bookkeeping certifications such as QuickBooks ProAdvisor certification are an asset.

  • Strong client-service orientation with the ability to build collaborative, respectful, and trusting relationships.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate professionally and reassuringly through video, audio, email, and other digital channels.

  • Fluency in English and Spanish, both written and spoken, is required.

  • Exceptional organization skills and the ability to manage competing priorities without losing track of deadlines or details.

  • Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, active listening, and research skills.

  • A proactive, dependable, positive, and solutions-oriented approach, including the ability to remain composed and constructive during challenging situations.

  • Ability to work independently while remaining engaged with team members and management.

  • Ability to work from a quiet, private, distraction-free home workspace with a closing door.

  • Reliable internet connection suitable for remote work, with the ability to connect the work computer directly to the router or modem via Ethernet when required.

  • Willingness to complete all required application materials, including a resume and cover letter.

Benefits
  • Part-time remote, work-from-home position.

  • Hourly compensation of $25–$27/hour.

  • Full benefits package.

  • Employee position rather than an independent contractor arrangement.

  • Opportunity to work with multiple clients and gain exposure to diverse business operations.

  • Collaborative, mission-driven environment focused on socially responsible business practices.

  • Supportive team culture emphasizing communication, accountability, professional development, and client success.

  • Opportunity to contribute to organizations and businesses working toward positive social and environmental impact.

  • Flexible remote work environment designed to support focused and productive work.

  • Opportunity to join a growing team and potentially support future client needs as the organization expands.
