Job Description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Business Intelligence Analyst based in Canada.
This role sits within a high-impact analytics function responsible for ensuring financial accuracy across complex payment and money-movement operations. You will independently own reconciliation and reporting workstreams spanning card networks, banks, processors, and internal transaction and ledger data. The position combines advanced SQL, financial analysis, automation, and stakeholder management to turn complex datasets into reliable business intelligence. You will investigate discrepancies, strengthen controls, and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce financial risk. Working closely with Finance, Accounting, Treasury, Tax, Compliance, Product, Engineering, and Data teams, you will influence priorities and technical roadmaps. The environment is fast-paced, highly analytical, and focused on accuracy, accountability, and measurable impact.
- Independently design, develop, deploy, and maintain end-to-end reconciliation and reporting solutions, including matching logic, exception queues, break dashboards, settlement summaries, and standardized accounting outputs.
- Own daily, weekly, and monthly reconciliation activities across card networks, banking partners, processors, and internal transaction and ledger systems, taking discrepancies from detection through root-cause analysis, resolution, and control enhancement.
- Define and implement meaningful domain metrics such as match rates, break aging, resolution times, funding compliance, and reporting SLAs, ensuring stakeholders understand and use them effectively.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on settlement, funding, transaction lifecycles, money movement, data models, and reconciliation technologies.
- Develop and document automated SQL-based reporting, navigating unfamiliar datasets independently to answer complex questions about financial flows.
- Partner with Data Engineering or work independently to design, build, validate, troubleshoot, and maintain datasets and pipelines supporting reconciliation and reporting.
- Identify control weaknesses, revenue leakage, manual processes, and upstream data-quality issues, then drive automation and process improvements to address them.
- Monitor settlement and banking activity for irregularities and proactively investigate potential issues.
- Build strong relationships with technical and non-technical stakeholders across Engineering, Product, Accounting, Treasury, Tax, and Compliance.
- Support month-end close activities through reconciliation reporting, standardized financial summaries, audit-ready documentation, and internal or external audit support.
- Define business requirements and test plans for system changes, validate new reconciliation capabilities, and collaborate with technical teams to resolve defects and deliver enhancements.
- Mentor and support other analysts by reviewing work, sharing best practices, and contributing to a strong culture of analytical excellence.
- Apply an AI-first mindset to improve analytical speed, quality, automation, and insight while promoting responsible use of AI tools.
- 5+ years of relevant experience in reconciliation, settlement, payment operations, accounting, finance analytics, or a related field, with a Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, a quantitative discipline, or similar; alternatively, 3+ years of experience with a Master's degree or equivalent professional experience.
- Expert-level SQL skills, including the ability to independently design, develop, document, and maintain automated reporting solutions and work confidently with unfamiliar datasets.
- Demonstrated experience owning reconciliation, settlement, or financial reporting workstreams end to end, including defining metrics and driving adoption.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, double-entry accounting, financial data integrity, and the mechanics of money movement.
- Experience partnering with Data Engineering teams or independently building, validating, and maintaining data pipelines, with sound judgment around technical trade-offs.
- Advanced Excel capabilities, including complex formulas and pivot tables, along with experience using reconciliation tools and banking portals.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to present findings, influence decisions, and establish clear next steps in ambiguous situations.
- Proven ability to identify process inefficiencies and deliver automation or control improvements in deadline-driven, high-accuracy environments.
- Experience with card-network reconciliation and settlement involving networks such as Visa, Mastercard, American Express, or Discover is strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with payment rails such as ACH, wire, SWIFT, RTP, or FedNow and with the broader payments ecosystem is an advantage.
- Python or similar scripting experience for data analysis and process automation is preferred.
- Experience with cloud data warehouses such as Snowflake or BigQuery and BI platforms such as Looker or Tableau is a plus.
- Exposure to interchange and fee reconciliation, revenue-leakage detection, tax or regulatory reporting, audits, internal controls, or SOX-related processes is beneficial.
- A curious, proactive, detail-oriented mindset with an interest in payments products, financial markets, and solving complex analytical problems.
- Remote work opportunities designed to support flexibility and productivity.
- Medical insurance and comprehensive health-related benefits.
- Flexible time-off policies and company holidays.
- Retirement savings and financial planning benefits.
- Modern family-planning benefits and support for different family needs.
- An inclusive and collaborative working environment focused on innovation, impact, and professional growth.
- Opportunities to work on high-volume financial and payments operations with meaningful business impact.
- Supportive environment for continuous learning, automation, and responsible use of emerging AI technologies.
