Job Description
Position Summary
The Field Service Technician is responsible for performing inspection, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, repair, installation, and startup support on industrial equipment at customer locations. This is a hands-on position that requires travel to industrial facilities, power plants, marine locations, and other field sites. The technician must be able to work safely, communicate clearly, document work accurately, and work independently or as part of a field service team.

Primary Responsibilities
- Perform field inspections, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, repairs, equipment removal and installation, and startup support.
- Work on electric motors, generators, pumps, gearboxes, fans, blowers, controls, power-generation equipment, and other rotating equipment.
- Inspect bearings, couplings, shafts, seals, lubrication systems, electrical connections, and related components.
- Perform laser or dial-indicator alignment and assist with vibration troubleshooting and field balancing as required.
- Collect and document vibration, temperature, amperage, voltage, insulation resistance, and other equipment readings.
- Assist with startup and commissioning of repaired or newly installed equipment.
- Perform preventive maintenance inspections and identify equipment conditions that could lead to failure.
- Use hand tools, power tools, meters, test equipment, rigging equipment, and specialty field-service tools.
- Safely rig, lift, move, and position motors, pumps, generators, and related equipment.
- Complete field-service reports, inspection forms, JSAs/JHAs, time sheets, and customer documentation.
- Take clear photos and document equipment condition before, during, and after work.
- Communicate findings, recommended repairs, job status, and site issues to supervisors and customers.
- Maintain assigned service truck, tools, test equipment, and inventory in good working condition.
- Follow company safety procedures, customer site requirements, and applicable OSHA practices.
- Participate in emergency, after-hours, weekend, and out-of-town field-service work when required.
Qualifications
- Industrial mechanical or electrical experience preferred.
- Experience with electric motors, pumps, generators, controls, or rotating equipment strongly preferred.
- Ability to read equipment nameplates, drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.
- Basic understanding of bearings, lubrication, alignment, vibration, electrical testing, and mechanical troubleshooting.
- Ability to use multimeters, insulation-resistance testers, amp clamps, vibration equipment, and other field test instruments.
- Experience with rigging, cranes, forklifts, or lifting equipment is preferred.
- Ability to work safely around industrial and electrical equipment.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- CDL is a plus but not required unless assigned to equipment requiring one.
- Must be willing to travel (50%) and work overtime, nights, weekends, or emergency calls when necessary.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry tools and equipment.
- Ability to climb ladders, kneel, bend, crawl, and work from elevated or confined areas when required.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in industrial environments and varying weather conditions.
- Ability to wear required PPE including hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, safety-toe boots, and fall protection.
Performance Expectations
The Field Service Technician is expected to represent the company professionally at customer locations, work safely, protect company and customer equipment, communicate problems quickly, and provide accurate documentation of all work performed. The technician should be able to take direction, work as part of a team, and progressively develop the skills required to independently troubleshoot and complete field-service work.
