YOUR PURPOSE

The role of a Senior Commissioning Agent is dedicated to building strong client partnerships and guiding projects through the commissioning process to ensure building systems perform as intended and align with owner goals. You will lead commissioning efforts from early planning through construction and occupancy, coordinating with multidisciplinary project teams to support seamless system integration, operational performance, and overall project success. This role involves overseeing complex commissioning activities, directing field observations and system testing, and providing strategic guidance to clients, contractors, and project teams throughout the project lifecycle. Beyond project delivery, you will play an important role in mentoring team members, strengthening client relationships, supporting business development initiatives, and representing the firm as a trusted technical advisor within the built environment.

YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS + IMPACT

Key Actions

  • Guide multidisciplinary teams in exploring solutions and developing technically sound design solutions that support project goals.
  • Leads the development and administration of comprehensive commissioning plans, oversees and executes functional performance testing, and manages issue resolution, documentation, and final reporting to ensure fully validated building systems.
  • Oversee the creation and coordination of design reviews throughout the development of construction documents to identify potential functional, operational, and maintenance issues to ensure accuracy and quality, and within budgetary constraints.
  • Contribute to the evolution of departmental standards and quality practices to elevate firmwide team and client outcomes.
  • Build a collaborative project team culture by modeling accountability, supporting open communication, and fostering an environment where project team members own their work and contributions.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.

Client Engagement

  • Build and sustain strong relationships with existing clients while cultivating new partnerships that support long-term growth.
  • Participate in business development activities, including networking, and involvement in professional organization, to expand the firm’s visibility and influence.
  • Collaborate closely with clients throughout planning and design to ensure solutions align with their needs, goals, and expectations.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to add value to clients through providing strategic insights and solutions to strengthen long-term partnerships and position the firm as a trusted advisor.

Project Coordination

  • Serve as the commissioning leader on projects, guiding coordination efforts with internal teams, clients, consultants, and construction partners to meet schedule, budget, and quality milestones.
  • Facilitate smooth project delivery by organizing information, tracking progress, and maintaining clear communication across disciplines to strengthen collaboration and trust.
  • Facilitate thoughtful reviews and feedback on design documents to strengthen technical quality, support team development, and encourage open, positive, and constructive communication.
  • Mentor team members by sharing expertise, lessons learned, and best practices to support their professional growth.

Professional Foundations

  • Associate ‘s or bachelor’s degree in HVAC, mechanical engineering or related discipline.
  • Professional Licensure and relevant Commissioning Certifications a plus. LEED accreditation is preferred.
  • 10+ years of professional relevant experience, including direct commissioning experience, field technician for HVAC controls, or similar.
  • Five or more years of experience as a mechanical designer or in the field of commissioning.
  • Knowledge and experience in REVIT and Cx Alloy software.
  • Extensive knowledge of standards and codes.
  • Field HVAC experience is a plus.
  • Participation in professional industry organizations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Project, and Teams.
  • Knowledge of Google Workspace, including Slides, Docs, Sheets, Forms, Calendar, Gmail, etc.
