You will guide a team of lighting artists while collaborating closely with art, design, technical, and production teams.

As a Lead Lighting Artist, you will be responsible for maintaining and elevating the game’s visual identity by translating the artistic vision into high-quality lighting solutions across playable environments and cinematics. You will lead a team, establish best practices, and collaborate across disciplines to deliver visually impactful and technically optimized experiences.
- Lead and mentor a team of lighting artists, fostering collaboration, creativity, professional growth, and high-quality execution.
- Work with art leadership and other artists to define and implement lighting schemes aligned with the project’s visual direction and artistic goals.
- Create and oversee lighting for scenes, levels, and cinematics based on concept art, references, and creative briefs.
- Drive storytelling through effective use of lighting, color, atmosphere, and mood to enhance player experiences.
- Establish lighting standards, quality targets, visual prototypes, and workflows to support efficient content creation.
- Ensure team deliverables meet production deadlines while maintaining strong quality standards and sustainable workflows.
- Provide daily feedback, technical guidance, and creative solutions to improve visual quality.
- Collaborate with VFX artists, level designers, technical artists, engineers, and other disciplines to create cohesive AAA experiences.
- Research and implement new lighting techniques while optimizing workflows, pipelines, and performance.
- Partner with technical teams to ensure lighting solutions meet performance requirements and platform limitations.
- Support recruitment activities, onboarding, performance reviews, and team development initiatives.
The ideal candidate combines strong artistic expertise, technical knowledge of real-time lighting, and proven leadership experience within the game development industry.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating AAA-quality lighting work across environments and scenes.
- 7+ years of experience in console or PC game development, including 5+ years working with Unreal Engine.
- Previous experience in a leadership or team management role.
- Deep understanding and hands-on experience with lighting in real-time game engines, CGI, or VFX productions.
- Advanced knowledge of physically based rendering workflows and modern lighting techniques.
- Strong understanding of performance limitations and optimization practices for current-generation consoles.
- Ability to create and manage lighting-related assets, including textures, IES profiles, HDR maps, materials, scripts, and other supporting content.
- Knowledge of traditional art principles, including composition, shape, form, texture, value, and color.
- Understanding of photography concepts such as exposure value, shutter speed, ISO, and composition.
- Experience with industry-standard tools such as Photoshop and Unreal Engine, as well as modeling and sculpting tools like Maya, 3ds Max, ZBrush, or equivalents.
- Ability to interpret artistic concepts and creatively enhance initial ideas.
- Strong mentoring, coaching, and leadership skills with the ability to guide teams through creative and technical challenges.
- Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal, with the ability to collaborate with international teams and stakeholders.
- Self-motivated, adaptable, and able to develop new workflows and artistic approaches with minimal guidance.
