This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a BC, Senior Hard Surface Model/Texture/Look Dev Artist based in Canada.

This contract-based opportunity is designed for an experienced VFX artist specializing in hard surface asset creation, texturing, and look development.
The role focuses on building high-quality digital assets for film and television projects, combining artistic vision with strong technical expertise.
You will collaborate with multiple creative departments to deliver production-ready models, textures, and materials that meet demanding visual standards.
Working within a collaborative and artist-driven environment, you will contribute to the development of complex environments, vehicles, and props.
The position offers the chance to solve creative and technical challenges while applying advanced modeling and look development skills.

Accountabilities:

The Senior Hard Surface Model/Texture/Look Dev Artist will be responsible for creating, refining, and delivering high-quality digital assets while collaborating closely with production teams to ensure assets integrate smoothly into the overall pipeline. Key responsibilities include:

  • Creating digital assets from photographic references, cyber scans, and production specifications while meeting quality and technical requirements.
  • Developing high-resolution hard surface models, including environments, vehicles, and props.
  • Cleaning, refining, and retopologizing models as required for production workflows.
  • Creating UV layouts, texture maps, and look development elements to achieve realistic and visually appealing results.
  • Working closely with asset, CG, and VFX teams to ensure assets function effectively throughout the production pipeline.
  • Applying industry best practices and proactively identifying potential technical or creative challenges.
  • Following established pipeline standards, workflows, and studio procedures.
  • Demonstrating creativity, strong aesthetic judgment, and attention to detail while managing assigned tasks independently.
  • Communicating effectively with supervisors and team members to support successful project delivery.
Requirements:

The ideal candidate is an experienced VFX artist with strong technical skills in modeling, texturing, and look development, along with a passion for visual storytelling and production excellence. Required qualifications and skills include:

  • Professional experience working in film and television visual effects production.
  • A strong portfolio or demo reel demonstrating wireframes, UV layouts, texture maps, and completed assets.
  • Advanced experience creating high-resolution hard surface models.
  • Proficiency with Maya and ZBrush or Mari.
  • Strong retopology and UV mapping skills.
  • Experience with look development and physically based texturing workflows.
  • Knowledge of V-Ray is considered an asset.
  • Experience with Houdini, Marvelous Designer, or Substance Painter is considered an asset.
  • Strong communication, organization, and time management skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail with the ability to manage deadlines and production requirements.
  • Ability to work independently while remaining collaborative, adaptable, and receptive to feedback.
  • Must reside in British Columbia, Canada, with the ability to work remotely using Pacific Standard Time.
