Job Description

Summary:

The Director of Infusion Therapy Services provides strategic, operational, and financial leadership for infusion therapy services (chemotherapy and non-chemotherapy) across multiple campuses within the health system. This role works collaboratively with physician leaders, nursing leadership, pharmacy, and executive administration to ensure high-quality, safe, patient-centered infusion services while driving operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, growth, and innovation. The position operates with a high degree of independence and accountability.

Scope: Health system-wide responsibility across three (3) campuses and associated outpatient infusion centers.

Responsibilities:

Operational Leadership & Management
  • Leads and oversees day-to-day infusion therapy operations across multiple campuses, including hospital-based and outpatient infusion centers.
  • Ensures safe, efficient delivery of chemotherapy and non-chemotherapy infusion services in alignment with clinical best practices, nursing standards, and organizational priorities.
  • Develops, implements, and monitors key performance indicators (KPIs) related to access, throughput, capacity utilization, patient experience, quality, and safety.
  • Drives continuous improvement initiatives to optimize patient flow, chair utilization, scheduling models, and staffing efficiency.

Regulatory Compliance & Quality
  • Institutional regulatory requirements related to infusion therapy, hazardous drug handling, and medication safety.
  • Partners with nursing, pharmacy, quality, and safety teams to reduce risk
  • Ensures compliance with CMS, Joint Commission, USP 797/800, state, and outcomes, and support accreditation readiness.

Financial & Budgetary Oversight
  • Develops, manages, and monitors the infusion services operating budget, including labor, supplies, pharmaceuticals (in collaboration with pharmacy), and capital equipment.
  • Analyzes financial performance, identifies cost containment opportunities, and implements resource optimization strategies.
  • Prepares business plans and pro formas for new infusion programs, expanded services, extended hours, or new site development.

Stakeholder Collaboration & Coordination
  • Serves as the primary administrative liaison for infusion therapy services across campuses.
  • Collaborates closely with physician leadership, nursing leadership, pharmacy, revenue cycle, finance, IT, and supply chain to ensure aligned operational execution.
  • Supports system-wide standardization efforts while accounting for site-specific needs.

Data Analytics & Performance Improvement
  • Leverages operational and clinical data to monitor volumes, capacity, drug utilization, revenue performance, and patient outcomes.
  • Uses data-driven insights to guide decision-making and performance improvement initiatives.

Program Development & Strategic Growth
  • Leads implementation of new infusion programs, therapies, and care models in alignment with system strategy.
  • Expands access to infusion services through operational redesign, extended hours, and site optimization.

Leadership & Team Development
  • Provides direct and indirect leadership to infusion operations management staff.
  • Promotes a culture of accountability, collaboration, safety, and continuous improvement.
  • Supports recruitment, onboarding, development, and retention of high-performing teams.
  • Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • In-depth understanding of infusion therapy operations, including chemotherapy administration, medication safety, and ambulatory infusion workflows.
  • Strong knowledge of healthcare regulations and accreditation standards applicable to infusion services.
  • Financial acumen, including budgeting, variance analysis, and revenue cycle fundamentals.
  • Ability to analyze operational data and translate insights into actionable improvements.
  • Demonstrated leadership, change management, and team development skills.
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to lead across multiple sites and disciplines in a complex health system environment.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, business administration, nursing, or a related field plus five (5) or more years of progressive leadership experience in infusion therapy, oncology services, ambulatory operations, or related clinical service lines.
  • Experience managing multi-site healthcare operations.
  • RN license or valid temporary permit to practice in Texas.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in healthcare administration, business administration, nursing, or a related field.
  • Experience with oncology infusion services and hazardous drug programs.
  • Experience partnering with pharmacy and nursing leadership in complex clinical environments.
  • Oncology Nursing Certification (OCN) or similar.
