Job Summary

The Laboratory Assistant specializes in the pre-analytic functions of the clinical laboratory, and performs various testing and processing procedures on patient specimens to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Test performance and reporting is defined as specified by CLIA. Job duties include organizing specimen collection requests, specimen transport, specimen processing, testing dispersal, point-of-care testing procedures, and other pre-analytic functions following established standards and practices. Utilizes scientific principles as well as technical, procedural, and problem-solving aptitudes for day-to-day laboratory technical operations. The Laboratory Assistant supports and assists at the direction of the Medical Laboratory Scientist.

Education and/or Experience

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
• Associate’s degree or equivalent credits from a college or technical school OR 1 year laboratory related experience required.

CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE, and/or REGISTRATIONS

• Certification as a Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) or Phlebotomist Technician (PBT) from the ASCP preferred.

Work Schedule

• Varied Day & Evening Shifts - Must be able to work all 4 shifts
• Days 4:30 am - 1:00 pm & 5am - 1:30 pm; Evenings: 1230 pm - 9pm & 1pm - 9:30 pm
• Full Time; 80hrs/2wks

Pay

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.

• $18.25 - $24.00 per hour
