Job Description
The role of the Peer Specialist is to promote wellness, recovery and to support people in achieving their goals. They provide patient support by relating empathically with individuals in the process of managing/recovering from mental illnesses or substance abuse. The Peer Specialist provides support during the admission process, attends meetings with providers as requested, helps patients identify their strengths, assists patients in averting crisis and participates in de-briefing patients following a restraint or crisis event. He/she also provides emotional support, gives individuals hope and demonstrates that recovery is possible. The Peer Specialist will be available to offer support services to patients and families in both the Psychiatric Inpatient as well as the Emergency Room setting.
Minimum Education
- High School graduate or equivalent.
- National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) training*
- Experience coaching others with mental health or substance abuse issues in a therapeutic environment
- Peer Specialist Certification preferred.
- Ability to understand and accurately follow written and verbal instructions.
- Strong verbal, listening and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Vermont's mental health system and knowledge of state, regional and local resources.
Pay Range: $15.03 - $22.32
COMPETITIVE DIFFERENTIALS RATES
- $4.25 - Evenings
- $8.00 - Nights
- $4.75 - Weekends
