OB Unit Secretary / C.N.A.

Reports To: OB Manager Status: Non-Exempt
POSITION SUMMARY:
The OB Unit Clerk / C.N.A. supports the nursing unit by performing both clerical and certified nursing assistant duties. This dual role involves maintaining accurate patient records, facilitating communication between departments and providing basic patient care under the supervision of licensed nursing staff.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Clerical / Administrative Duties
- Greets and assists patients, families, visitors and staff in a courteous and professional manner.
- Answers phone, directs calls and relays messages appropriately.
- Enters patient data into the electronic health record (E.H.R.) system.
- Maintains patient charts, forms and records in compliance with hospital policies and HIPAA regulations.
- Coordinates patient transfers, discharges and admissions.
- Monitors inventory and orders supplies for the unit.
- Facilitates communication between the nursing unit and other hospital departments.
Clinical Duties (C.N.A.)
- Assists patients with activities of daily living (ADL’s) such as bathing, dressing, toileting, feeding and ambulation.
- Obtains and records vital signs, weights and other patient measurements.
- Provides safe transport of patients via wheelchair, stretcher or bed.
- Observes and reports changes in patient condition to nursing staff.
- Ensures patient rooms are clean, stocked and organized.
- Assists in maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs specified duties during a hospital-wide emergency.
- Performs other related duties as requested.
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EDUCATION & ABILITIES:
Minimum Education: High School Diploma or equivalent, completion of a state-approved Certified
Nursing Assistant program.
Minimum Experience: One year experience in a hospital setting preferred.
Other: Required to be flexible in scheduling. Demonstrates organizational skills. Ability to operate computer word processing program. Good oral and written communication skills.
MENTAL AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Must be flexible in a demanding environment. Must be able to handle multiple assignments in a timely manner. Must be able to prioritize and use good judgment. Must be able to coordinate a variety of issues while being frequently interrupted. Must be calm during times of crisis.
