About This Position

Schedule: M – T, 5:00 AM – 3:30 PM
This position is located at our Bayou La Batre, AL facility.
Join the Birdon team and help ensure USCG boats are safe and reliable!
Our Welders are an integral piece of our work on a daily basis. Some of your daily functions will include:
- 3 to 5 years of experience welding aluminum in a marine or industrial environment.
- Proficiency in MIG and/or TIG aluminum welding.
- Read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and ship drawings
- Knowledge of aluminum alloys commonly used in shipbuilding (e.g., 5083, 5086, 6061)
- Fit, tack, and weld assemblies for hulls, decks, superstructures, and outfitting
- Understanding of welding distortion control and heat input management
- Ability to produce quality work with minimum to no rework
- Excellent math skills with the ability to read a tape measure accurately.
- Must be able to weld aluminum proficiently.
- Perform rework and repairs as required by QA/QC or inspection results
- Must be able to weld in any position (uphill, horizontal, vertical, or flat)
- Ability to operate power equipment safely and comply with all safety standards.
If you have at least 3 years’ experience as an Aluminum Welder, possess a High School Diploma or GED and fundamental knowledge in marine or manufacturing industry, we want to talk to you!
