Position Purpose


Telephone Triage – Medical Assistant will be responsible for patient assessments; patient needs by responding to patients over the phone line, portal, or HIPAA compliant texting application. Collaborate with providers ensuring quality patient care in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and accreditation standards.


Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks:


• Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.


• Monitors, prioritizes, and responds to triage needs on the phone line, patient portal, or HIPAA compliant texting application.


• Responds to patient inquiries, prioritizing responses and routing urgent situations to a physician or a provider.


• Talks directly to patients on the telephone; portal or HIPAA compliant texting application to schedule patients to their physician during office hours.


• Maintains accurate and detailed documentation and follows patient privacy in accordance with HIPAA and company policies and procedures.


• Prioritizes work tasks and services and completes tasks in a timely manner.


• Maintains accurate, clear, and concise progress notes, problem lists, and medication lists.


• Communicates respectfully with staff, consultants, and patients.


• Arranges appointments for patients who need to see a physician. Consults with physician as needed.


• Delivers patient education, according to the individualized needs of the patient and as prescribed by the Provider and/or Group policy.


• Serve as a clinical resource and professional role model for other staff.


• Prioritize and complete prescriptions, both electronic, fax and manual as ordered by the provider/physicians.


• Obtains documentation, when necessary, from hospital or ancillary portals


• Utilizes ancillary web portals for transfer of documentation orders, etc. on behalf of providers and patients.


• Review inbound referrals for direction of patients care.


• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


Education: High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED), medical assistant diploma from an accredited vocational institution, or a college course in medical assisting.


Experience: One (1) year triage experience preferred. (1-4 years MA experience) and/or meet the basic requirements of the job with the need for additional supervision.

Equipment Operated: This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.


Work Environment: This job operates in professional office environments.


Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds.
