Operations Manager – Insurance Brokerage
Element Insurance is a fast-growing independent insurance brokerage. We are building systems, teams, and long-term leadership — and we’re looking for an Operations Manager who has the courage, flexibility, and drive to grow with a startup brokerage.
Position Overview
Title: Operations Manager
Reports to: President & Principal Broker
The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing both Personal Insurance and Business Insurance operations, with a strong focus on team leadership, process improvement, and operational excellence. This role supports the sales team by ensuring efficient workflows, strong carrier relationships, and a high standard of customer service, retention, and compliance.
This is a hands-on leadership role suited for someone who thrives in a growing, evolving environment.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Team Leadership
- Lead, train, develop, and manage Personal and Business Insurance teams
- Set, track, and report on departmental goals and KPIs
- Conduct performance reviews and provide salary and development recommendations
- Oversee timekeeping, workload distribution, and daily operations
- Develop and monitor departmental budgets
Technical & Carrier Management
- Provide technical guidance to producers and staff on coverage analysis and underwriting
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with insurance carriers
- Lead personal lines underwriting strategy and support business insurance operations
- Act as liaison between producers and carriers to resolve complex or escalated issues
- Ensure quality standards, workflow efficiency, and continuous process improvement
Client, Claims & Retention Support
- Resolve escalated client complaints and service issues
- Assist with claim-related matters when necessary
- Support new business targets and retention initiatives
Professional & Organizational Development
- Stay current on industry trends, legislation, products, and technology
- Participate in industry events and professional development activities
- Communicate effectively across teams to support company-wide goals
Personal Attributes & Qualifications
- Strong working knowledge of personal and commercial insurance, rating, and underwriting
- Proven leadership, organizational, and time-management skills
- Highly detail-oriented with strong judgement and decision-making ability
- Proactive problem-solver, comfortable handling conflict and complex situations
