Position Summary
The Laundry Attendant is responsible for supporting the daily laundry operations of the community by ensuring that resident clothing, linens, and facility items are cleaned, sanitized, and distributed in a timely and organized manner. Reporting to the Housekeeping Manager, this role plays a critical part in infection prevention, regulatory compliance, and maintaining a clean and comfortable environment for residents across all levels of care, including skilled nursing.

This position requires strict adherence to infection control protocols, including the proper handling, separation, and processing of soiled and clean laundry. The Laundry Attendant operates commercial laundry equipment, manages linen flow, and ensures that all items are returned accurately and promptly. Attention to detail, organization, and consistency are essential to prevent loss or misplacement of resident belongings.

The Laundry Attendant works both independently and collaboratively with housekeeping, nursing, and other departments to meet the daily needs of residents. This role requires flexibility, efficiency, and a strong service-oriented mindset. The Laundry Attendant must demonstrate professionalism, respect for resident dignity and privacy, and the ability to respond to urgent or high-volume laundry demands while maintaining quality and safety standards.

Qualifications and Requirements
Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred, but not required
  • Prior housekeeping, janitorial, environmental services, or custodial experience preferred
  • Experience in senior living, skilled nursing, assisted living, memory care, healthcare, hospitality, or commercial environments strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with cleaning chemicals, floor care equipment, and infection control practices preferred
  • Prior experience working with older adults or individuals with disabilities is a plus
Knowledge and Skills
  • Knowledge of proper cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfection techniques
  • Understanding of infection control standards and safe handling of cleaning chemicals and waste
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established schedules and procedures
  • Ability to recognize and report safety hazards, maintenance concerns, or resident-related observations
  • Effective verbal communication skills and ability to interact respectfully with residents, families, staff, and visitors
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism at all times
  • Strong time-management and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a team environment
  • Willingness and ability to respond to urgent housekeeping needs and changing priorities
Physical and Work Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and perform repetitive motions throughout the shift
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull supplies and equipment (generally up to 50 pounds, occasionally more with assistance)
  • Ability to work indoors across various environments including resident apartments, healthcare units, offices, dining areas, and restrooms
  • Ability to tolerate exposure to cleaning chemicals, dust, allergens, and typical healthcare-related conditions while using proper PPE
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including weekends, holidays, evenings, or extended hours as required
