Advanced Laser Systems Technology (ALST) has an immediate opening for a Production WIP (Work-in-Progress) Coordinator. Job Summary

The Production WIP (Work-in-Progress) Coordinator is responsible for monitoring, tracking, and managing work-in-progress inventory throughout the manufacturing process. This role ensures accurate inventory records, timely movement of materials, production schedule adherence, and effective communication between Production, Warehouse, Planning, and Quality teams. The position supports operational efficiency by maintaining inventory accuracy, minimizing production delays, and ensuring materials are available to support production requirements. The role operates with limited supervision while following established inventory control and production procedures.

COMPLEXITY & PROBLEM SOLVING

Works on assignments requiring judgment and initiative. Understands implications of work and makes recommendations for solutions. Encounters problems which are varied and non-routine. Requires basic problem-solving techniques to clearly identify and resolve problems. Impact is short term (typically limited to one year). Scope of impact will be at the department and/or team level. Work may also impact related activities outside of own work team and/or department. Financial accountability is typically confined to proactive management of cost within the project/team.

COLLABORATION & INTERACTION

Determines methods and procedures on new assignments. May be informal team leader via coaching / mentoring more junior employees without direct supervisory responsibilities. Interprets or explains data or information to deliver messages; audience may not be knowledgeable about the subject matter.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Track and monitor all work-in-progress (WIP) inventory throughout manufacturing operations.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records within ERP, MRP, or inventory management systems.
  • Coordinate movement of materials between production departments and work centers.
  • Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies, shortages, and transaction errors.
  • Support production scheduling by ensuring required materials are available when needed.
  • Generate and analyze WIP reports to identify bottlenecks, material shortages, and production issues.
  • Collaborate with Production Supervisors, Production Planners, Warehouse personnel, and Quality teams to maintain workflow continuity.
  • Conduct cycle counts and inventory audits of WIP materials to ensure inventory accuracy.
  • Monitor production orders and update status reports for management.
  • Support month-end inventory reconciliation and reporting activities.
  • Ensure compliance with company inventory control procedures, quality standards, and manufacturing requirements.
  • Assist with continuous improvement initiatives focused on inventory accuracy, workflow efficiency, and production performance.
  • Utilize Microsoft Excel and reporting tools to track, analyze, and communicate inventory and production data.
  • Work independently while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

REQUIRED CAPABILITIES

  • Strong understanding of inventory control practices and production processes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Knowledge of production scheduling and material planning concepts preferred.
  • Understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to walk throughout the manufacturing facility.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to stand, bend, and reach during inventory audits and production floor activities.

EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE

  • Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain Operations, Business, Manufacturing, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in manufacturing, inventory control, production planning, production coordination, or supply chain operations.
  • Experience using ERP/MRP systems such as Infor, Syteline, Costpoint, SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar inventory management platforms.
  • Experience performing cycle counts, inventory reconciliations, and inventory audits preferred.
  • Experience generating reports and analyzing production or inventory data preferred.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, continuous improvement methodologies, and production scheduling principles preferred.
