Job Overview:

A Surgical Technologist is a healthcare professional who is responsible for preparing and supporting surgical procedures. This individual oversees the set up of the operating room, equipment, and assistance of the surgical team.

As a Surgical Technologist, a typical day might include:

• Demonstrates clinical expertise by applying knowledge and technical skills to all surgical procedures including consistent application of aseptic technique and maintenance of a sterile field.
• Applies knowledge of growth and development over the life span. Applies the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit, i.e. Infant, Adult, Pediatric, Geriatric and Adolescent.
• Demonstrates proper handling of OR instruments and equipment with thorough follow through on repairs, losses, and maintenance.
• Assists in general nursing activities of the department to meet and improve the physical, psychological, and spiritual needs of surgical patients including all problem solving and performance improvement activities.

Qualifications:

Required:

• Successful completion of a Surgical Technician program and Surgical technician certification required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA) required.
