About This Position
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Wyoming Department of Transportation is seeking an individual to join the Motor Vehicle Services team. This position is responsible for the fair and efficient collection of revenue from various sources, including Commercial Registrations, Commercial Fuel Tax, Specialty Plate Fees, Licensing Fees, and various other fees. This position will also accept and process applications for Title Searches, and for issuing apportioned plates and fuel licenses, and decals to qualifying commercial carriers. All duties require verification that the requirements have been met per Federal Code, Wyoming Statutes, IFTA and IRP Agreements, and Motor Vehicle Services Rules, Regulations, and Policies prior to the issuance of IRP / IFTA and Operating Authority credentials.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed at the job level.
- Responsible for interpreting Federal Code related to Motor Vehicles, Wyoming Statutes regarding Title 31 - Motor Vehicles, and Title 39 - Taxation and Revenue.
- Responsible for interpreting the IFTA and IRP Agreements, and Department Rules, Regulations, and Polices related to money handling, motor vehicle, and commercial vehicle issues.
- Disseminate information and answer questions from the County Treasurers, County Clerks, and the general public at the front counter over the telephone, and through written correspondence.
- Participate in ongoing training that may require out-of-state travel.
- Responsible for the issuance of various registrations, license plates, licenses, certificates, and title search results through over-the-counter, online, mail, or email.
- Reviews complex applications/licenses for accuracy and determines the appropriate disposition of the application/license; then performs follow-up with the customer to resolve any issues with applications or licenses.
- Contact the customer to discuss and resolve problems to include delinquency issues, rejected applications, incomplete IFTA returns, missing information, and other account issues.
- Responsible for maintaining a cash drawer; balancing over-the-counter, through the mail, and credit card funds received; daily reconciliation and preparation of funds for deposit
- Assist with other duties within the Motor Vehicle Section as assigned by the Supervisor or Manager
PREFERENCES:
Candidates will have to pass a typing proficiency test
KNOWLEDGE:
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to tailor communication to customers of varying knowledge levels regarding application and licensing policies and procedures.
- Detail-oriented to ensure appropriate cash handling and balancing procedures.
- Knowledge of state, federal, and agency requirements and polices related to taxation and motor vehicles.
- Ability to work under pressure, discern the status of ongoing tasks, and prioritize accordingly.
- Ability to use sound judgment related to problem resolution.
- Ability to ensure monthly/quarterly tasks related to IFTA returns are scheduled and completed timely.
- Ability to maintain organized records so colleagues can locate files and assist customers in your absence.
- Proven de-escalation skills for resolving issues with upset customers in person or on the phone.

- Employees would only be eligible for one (1) hiring bonus in a 12-month period.
- If the employee elects to downgrade through an active recruitment and/or appointment during the twelve (12) month period, they would be required to pay the bonus back.
