Position Description
This position will conduct community outreach and education activities. The Community Engagement Specialist will schedule, coordinate, plan, and implement outreach events within their assigned service area. The position also requires full participation in community outreach efforts and events and will include evening and weekend work. The initial primary service area for the following position will be in the three areas listed below. All CHP Community Engagement Specialists may be requested to assist with outreach in any of the Center's service areas.
Region: Kershaw, Chesterfield, Lee, Sumter, Clarendon, and Calhoun Counties
Responsibilities:
- Assists in maintaining the calendar of outreach activities, including community events, workshops, appearances and other communication opportunities.
- Recruits and trains volunteers for the Woodland Community Champion Institute. Helps plan and implement the SC Rural and Limited Resource Landowner Symposium yearly.
- Supports collaboration with community relationships to strengthen and expand the representation in assigned counties.
- Provide timely reports as required by the Community Engagement Director, such as data entry into Salesforce, filing of attendance sheets, generating letters to seminar attendees, and providing additional information requested by attendees.
- Position requires extensive in-state travel, along with some evening and weekend work.
Qualifications:
- 1 year of experience in community outreach, communications, and marketing, or related nonprofit work
- Public-speaking skills and experience in using social media tools to support program outreach activities
- Experience with CRM software, Salesforce preferred.
- Basic computer skills required. Familiarity with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, SharePoint, Teams) is strongly preferred.

Salary & Benefits Information:
Hiring Salary: $43,000 per year,
CHP's 37.50-hour workweek offers flexibility, allowing employees to maintain work-life balance while serving the Center's clients and mission. Excellent benefits packages that include employer-paid health and dental coverage, up to 16 paid holidays, 20 days of accrued vacation and sick time, and disability and life insurance options. Annual professional development ($1,200 per year), cellphone stipend, company laptop, and mileage reimbursement.
