Description of Job:
The Team Leader is a selected position and influential department leader who supports their Team Members and Supervisor. Additionally, the Team Leader will play a critical role in continuously improving performance in the areas of safety, quality, delivery, cost, and morale using continuous improvement problem solving tools.
The Team Leader position is responsible for helping improve team performance and not dedicated to a specific machine(s). The example of job duties listed below is intended to provide context for a new Team Leader position; it is not comprehensive and could vary from department to department:
- Pre-shift communication with shift leadership
- Gain an understanding of staffing.
- Gain an understanding of priority products.
- Populate assignment board (or assist leadership in doing so).
- Confirm Autonomous Maintenance Sheets are completed where applicable.
- Assist in shift start-up
- Assist in removing obstacles that prevent timely start-up (sufficient material available, setups complete).
- Review previous days’ production metrics.
- Cover absenteeism as required – after reasonably exhausting other alternatives (i.e., call-ins/overtime).
- Throughout the shift
- Engage in communication with each operator in assigned area.
- Hour By Hour charts/production sheets review and sign-off. Check for accuracy.
- Visually check parts produced for conformance. Measure parts where applicable.
- Fill out production charts or boards that are required in their assigned area.
- Ensure standard work is being followed.
- Escalate issues to Supervisor when roadblocks, quality concerns, or material delivery issues are present.
- Lead problem solving initiatives as required.
- Ensure shadow boards are properly stocked/maintained and items are placed within defined footprints.
- Perform first piece approvals and/or setups where applicable.
- Verify that gauges have the proper calibration stickers.
- Assist operators in the event assistance is required or is beneficial to sustain flow.
- Ensure that a safe, clean, and organized work environment is maintained (Quality and Safety audits).
- Ensure raw material is available for the shift and staged properly.
- End of shift
- Communication with incoming Team Lead of assigned area.
- Gather data for scrap review and ensure scrap review documentation is properly completed.
- Complete production charts or boards that are to be maintained in the assigned area.
- Review orderliness of each operation area and sign off on 5S checklists.
- Set up next shift for success, i.e., order material, sequence orders, setups completed, etc.
- Operators in training
- Review training progress throughout the day.
- Ensure trainees feel welcome and comfortable.
- Review training guides.
- Ensure operators follow Standard Work
Qualifications
PAY RATE: Team Leads receive an additional $1.50 per hour premium above their regular hourly rate while serving in the Team Lead position.
HOURS: Monday-Thursday 5am-3pm (this position may require additional time before and after shift)
