Job Description

About Kinetic We’re transforming workers’ comp with technology-driven solutions for injury prediction, prevention, and management—helping employers create safer, healthier workplaces. We also work directly with enterprise clients.
Our platform is built for labor intensive industries including parcel delivery, manufacturing, and wholesale/warehousing operations. From wearable tech that reduces strain and sprain injuries by over 60% to a tech-driven program that speeds up return-to-work and generative AI for claims management, we're redefining what workers' comp can do.
We’re a remote-first team headquartered in New York City, growing fast—10x in the past two years—and driven by accountability, continuous improvement, and collaboration. If you're excited to build a career with impact, we’d love to meet you.
Kinetic has been named to: Business Insurance's Best Place to Work in Insurance 2025.
The Role You will own pricing analysis, portfolio monitoring, and indications work within Kinetic’s Actuarial & Analytics team. This is a high-visibility role on a small, fast-moving team where your analysis goes directly into carrier conversations and underwriting decisions. We are looking for a credentialed actuary (ACAS required) who can operate independently, bring actuarial rigor to a data-rich environment, and help build the analytical infrastructure as Kinetic scales.
This role has also absorbed model ownership previously held by our Quantitative Modeler contract, which was eliminated in 2026. You'll take on end-to-end ownership of Kinetic's express-quote and renewal-tiering models — not just consuming model output, but validating, refreshing, and documenting them — alongside the pricing and portfolio work below.
A note on reserving: as an MGA, reserving currently sits with our carrier partners, so this role focuses on pricing-side analytics and portfolio monitoring which includes emergence and development patterns from a pricing perspective. This role may take on reserving responsibilities in the future if we move forward with capacity alternatives.
What You'll DoPricing Analysis
  • Lead pricing analysis for new and renewal business: exposure rating, loss development, and rate adequacy reviews.
  • Conduct and document actuarial indications; translate findings into actionable pricing recommendations for underwriting leadership.
  • Partner with the Data Scientists on pricing model outputs, Tableau dashboard views, target market research, impact analyses, etc.
  • Benchmark rates against industry data and flag emerging trends to leadership.
Portfolio Monitoring
  • Own quarterly portfolio monitoring end-to-end: pull, analyze, and present loss ratio, claim frequency, and severity trends by segment.
  • Lead carrier-facing reporting deliverables, including Carrier slides and bordereaux.
  • Identify deteriorating segments early and surface them with analysis and recommended action.
Data & Tooling
  • Write and maintain SQL queries in Athena for data pulls, QA, and ad hoc analyses.
  • Build and document actuarial models in Excel and/or Python.
  • Collaborate with the data team on gold-table structures; flag data-quality issues proactively.
Model Stewardship
  • Own the express-quote and renewal-tiering models: maintain, refresh, and validate against loss outcomes; build new GLM/GBM models as scoped. Validate models against holdout data before production; produce quarterly predicted-vs-actual monitoring and flag drift. Maintain complete model documentation so any model can be audited or handed off without your direct involvement

What We're Looking For Credentials
  • ACAS (Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society) required, or near-credential with the final exams in progress; FCAS welcome.
  • Active exam and/or continuing-education progress expected.
Experience
  • 5–10 years of actuarial experience in P&C insurance.
  • Workers’ compensation or commercial lines experience strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience in an MGA, insurtech, or specialty carrier environment a plus.
  • Proven ability to present actuarial findings to underwriting, finance, or carrier partners.
Technical Skills
  • SQL proficiency required; comfortable writing/modifying production-quality queries in Athena or similar.
  • Strong Excel and actuarial modeling skills.
  • Familiarity with GLM/GBM model development and validation (holdout testing, drift monitoring) a strong plus, given this role's ownership of Kinetic's pricing models.
  • Python or R experience preferred.
  • Comfort with ambiguous, evolving data environments.
How You WorkHigh-ownership mentality; able to hold a deliverable end-to-end.
  • Clear communicator who can translate actuarial findings for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Comfortable in a fast-moving startup environment where processes are still being built.
NoteCandidates must reside within the US with existing authorization to work in the United States. This role requires domestic travel for company offsites and team alignment. Verification of government-issued identity and employment eligibility will be conducted in person prior to employment.
Security Notice: Kinetic is committed to a secure hiring process. All offers of employment are contingent upon successful completion of a comprehensive identity and background verification process. We will never ask for financial information or payment during the application process.
CompensationThe base pay range for this role is $145,000 – $180,000 per year.
