Provides breastfeeding support and education to mothers and infants at Milford Regional Medical Center. Enhances lactation knowledge and skills among nursing and medical staff and contributes to the development and implementation of breastfeeding standards of practice.

I. Major Responsibilities:


1. Assess breastfeeding mothers needs for instruction, problem resolution, and discharge follow-up.
2. Develop and document individualized plans of care for each patient consultation.
3. Create and maintain educational curricula for prenatal classes, inpatient education, and staff competency in collaboration with Maternity leadership.
4. Evaluate mother/infant needs and adjust care plans accordingly.
5. Provide outpatient breastfeeding support and manage the breast pump rental program.
6. Organize assignments to meet patient care needs and assist peers as needed.

II. Position Qualifications:
License/Certification/Education:
Required:

1. Graduate of an accredited school for Registered Nurses
2. MA RN license
3. Certification by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners
4. Current CPR certification
Preferred:
1. BSN

Experience/Skills:
Required:

1. Minimum of 2 years of experience working with breastfeeding patients
2. Demonstrated clinical expertise in lactation support
