Job Description
*(1st Shift Sun-Wed- 6:00AM- 6:00PM) *
Position Summary: The Entry Level Trailer Mechanic performs basic inspection, maintenance, and repair of trailers under the guidance of senior mechanics, helping ensure the safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance of the Company's trailer fleet. This role provides hands-on training to build foundational mechanical skills while supporting day-to-day fleet maintenance operations.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform routine inspections of trailers to identify mechanical, structural, and safety issues
- Assist in repairing and maintaining trailer components, including brakes, lights, tires, and suspension systems
- Perform basic maintenance tasks such as lubrication, fluid checks, and tire changes
- Diagnose minor mechanical issues under the supervision of senior mechanics
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, and parts used
- Ensure all work complies with Department of Transportation (DOT) and Company safety standards
- Operate hand and power tools safely and in accordance with established safety protocols
- Assist senior mechanics with more complex repairs and learn advanced repair techniques
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Vocational training or certificate in diesel, automotive, or heavy equipment technology
- Prior experience in trailer, truck, or fleet maintenance
- Familiarity with DOT inspection standards and regulations
- ASE certification, or actively working toward certification
- Basic welding or fabrication experience
- Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
Physical Demands:
- Prolonged standing (warehouse/onsite support)
- Walking for extended periods across facilities or yards
- Lifting up to 50 lbs
- Bending, stooping, kneeling, or crouching
- Reaching above/below shoulder level
- Repetitive hand/wrist movements (typing, scanning, equipment use)
- Operating equipment (forklift, pallet jack, etc.)
- Climbing stairs or ladders
Work Environment:
- Outdoor work (yards, loading areas, client sites)
- Exposure to varying temperatures (heat/cold)
- Exposure to moderate/high noise levels
- Fast-paced, high-volume operational environment
