Job Description

OBJECTIVE / ACCOUNTABILITY

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for safely and effectively maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and supporting the equipment, systems, facilities, and infrastructure essential to nursery operations and company-owned properties. This role supports the Facilities Manager in preventative maintenance activities, facility repairs, operational equipment maintenance, and construction projects while working both independently and collaboratively alongside other Maintenance Technicians to support efficient daily operations and continuous operational improvement.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Equipment & Systems Maintenance

  • Perform preventative, seasonal, and corrective maintenance on company equipment, operational systems, and facility infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, and maintain equipment and systems including:
    • Pumps and pump stations
    • Irrigation systems and controllers
    • Electrical systems
    • Plumbing systems
    • Climate control and heating systems
    • General operational and maintenance equipment
  • Support the maintenance and repair of greenhouse systems and equipment as needed.
  • Safely operate hand tools, power tools, measuring devices, and maintenance equipment.
  • Assist in minimizing operational downtime through timely repairs and proactive maintenance practices.

Facility & Construction Support

  • Assist with maintenance, repair, and construction projects throughout nursery locations and company-owned facilities.
  • Support repairs and maintenance involving:
    • Basic 110V and 24V electrical systems
    • Plumbing and irrigation systems
    • HVAC and heating systems
    • Carpentry and structural repairs
  • Assist in maintaining company facilities, grounds, and operational infrastructure.

Communication & Team Collaboration

  • Communicate regularly with the assigned supervisor regarding maintenance activities, project updates, repair needs, and operational concerns.
  • Collaborate with maintenance team members and other departments to support daily operations and company initiatives.

Continuous Improvement & Professional Development

  • Demonstrate initiative and a willingness to learn new technical skills, equipment, and maintenance procedures.
  • Participate in ongoing development opportunities to expand technical knowledge and industry expertise.
  • Contribute to a safe, organized, and team-oriented work environment.

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements while performing maintenance, repair, and construction activities.
  • Maintain a safe and organized work environment by properly using tools, equipment, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Identify, report, and help correct unsafe conditions, equipment concerns, or operational hazards.
  • Perform work in a manner that minimizes risk to employees, visitors, equipment, and product.
  • Support departmental and company safety initiatives through active participation, communication, and safe work practices.
  • Ensure equipment repairs and maintenance activities are completed in compliance with applicable safety standards and operational procedures.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Valid Driver’s License with reliable transportation.
  • Ability to safely use common measuring devices, hand tools, and power tools.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude with the ability to learn troubleshooting and repair techniques.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to work overtime, Saturdays, and occasional on-call hours as operational needs require.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in varying environmental conditions, including heat and cold.
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety, teamwork, and customer service.

EDUCATION AND / OR EXPERIENCES

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Hands on experience with a variety of skills including: Mechanical systems, Plumbing, HVAC, Irrigation systems, Carpentry, Snow removal
  • Previous facilities maintenance, agricultural maintenance, industrial maintenance, or related experience preferred.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Technical Skills

  • Basic understanding of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, irrigation, and mechanical systems.
  • Fundamental knowledge of carpentry techniques and large equipment operation.
  • Basic computer proficiency preferred.

  • Strong work ethic and dependability.
  • Effective organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
