HVAC Service Technician
Reports to the Service Operations Manager
Typical Work Hours: 6:30 AM to 4:00 PM
Position Summary: The HVAC Service Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, inspection, and repair of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems and equipment. This position supports equipment throughout its full service lifecycle, including startup, preventive maintenance, warranty service, troubleshooting, and emergency repair. The role also includes communicating repair recommendations and maintenance needs clearly to customers.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to safety, customer service, and quality workmanship. This individual should possess sound organizational, communication, and troubleshooting skills, along with the ability to work patiently and professionally in a service environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Install, inspect, maintain, and repair ventilation, air conditioning, and related HVAC systems and equipment.
- Identify actual or potential maintenance risks and equipment performance issues.
- Diagnose electrical, mechanical, and system-related faults in HVAC equipment.
- Clean, adjust, repair, and service equipment, including warranty-related work as assigned.
- Respond to emergency service calls in a timely and effective manner.
- Provide technical guidance and on-the-job support or training when needed.
- Maintain accurate daily service logs, work records, and related documentation.
- Ensure work is performed in compliance with applicable standards, safety requirements, and company procedures.
- Follow established service instructions, customer specifications, and work requirements.
- Address customer questions in a professional and informative manner.
Qualifications:
- Local 597 union membership is preferred, but not required.
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as an HVAC technician required, along with a willingness to continue professional development in the HVAC field.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Strong understanding of air conditioning, refrigeration, and heating principles.
- Working knowledge of boiler systems required.
- Ability to balance air and water treatment systems in accordance with HVAC standards and protocols.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, drawings, and work plans.
- Ability to work in confined spaces as required by the job.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and climb for extended periods.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull tools, equipment, and materials consistent with the demands of the position.
- Ability to work in a range of indoor and outdoor environments and in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to safely use ladders, hand tools, and service equipment.
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the position in compliance with all applicable safety requirements.
