Job Purpose:
The Electrical Estimator is responsible for turning complex industrial and electrical project scopes into accurate, executable, and competitive cost proposals. This role evaluates project requirements, analyzes drawings and specifications, performs quantity takeoffs, develops labor and material pricing, and collaborates with operations, project management, procurement, fabrication, and field leadership to ensure estimates are aligned with real-world execution conditions.
The ideal candidate understands both the commercial and operational sides of industrial and commercial electrical work and can confidently price projects involving power distribution, controls, instrumentation, automation, shutdowns, installations, and plant environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze electrical drawings, specifications, and RFQs to fully understand project scope
- Identify and quantify materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor needs
- Develop detailed electrical estimates, including conduit, wiring, controls, panels, and terminations
- Prepare labor estimates based on NEC, manpower productivity rates, and site conditions
- Maintain relationships with vendors and subcontractors to obtain accurate pricing
- Evaluate vendor bids and subcontractor quotes for accuracy and competitiveness
- Use estimating software and tools to develop and present detailed cost proposals
- Collaborate with Project Managers and stakeholders to clarify scope and budget
- Track actual project costs for use in future estimates and job cost analysis
Qualifications:
- Strong understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and industry standards
- Proficiency in mathematics, data analysis, and cost estimation methods
- Ability to read and interpret electrical blueprints, plans, and technical documents
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- 5–7 years of field experience in commercial or industrial electrical work
- 3–5 years of experience in electrical estimating
- Experience with estimating software, Microsoft Office, and CAD tools
- College education not required—technical training or apprenticeships a plus
