Accounting Manager Job Summary
The Accounting Manager leads the day-to-day accounting and payroll functions, ensuring accurate financial records, timely reporting, compliance with applicable payroll and accounting requirements, and effective internal controls. This role is responsible for overseeing accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll processing, month-end and year-end close activities, reconciliations, and related financial processes. The Accounting Manager serves as a key resource for the organization by taking ownership of accounting operations, guiding staff and cross-functional partners, resolving issues proactively, and supporting sound financial decision-making.

This role is ideal for a motivated individual who thrives in a task-oriented environment and is eager to take the lead in executing key operational functions. As a core member of our team, you will be responsible for driving initiatives, managing processes, and ensuring the successful completion of projects with minimal supervision.

Requirements:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Take full ownership of assigned operational tasks, ensuring timely and accurate completion
  • Lead project initiatives, coordinating resources and team efforts to meet objectives
  • Develop and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness
  • Monitor operational performance metrics and address issues proactively
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align on project goals and deliverables
  • Provide hands-on support in daily operations, troubleshooting, and problem-solving
  • Maintain detailed documentation of processes, procedures, and project progress

Duties Overview:

  • Lead accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger activity, reconciliations, and financial recordkeeping.
  • Manager A/R invoicing, collections, cash receipts, and follow-up on past due accounts to ensure timely resolution and accurate reporting.
  • Review and approve vendor invoices, payment processing, account coding, and related documentation to maintain accuracy and compliance.
  • Manage month-end and year-end close processes, including preparing or reviewing journal entries, account reconciliations, supporting schedules, and financial reports.
  • Lead payroll-related accounting activities by processing payroll data, deductions, benefits-related costs, time off balances, and retirement plan information for accuracy and completeness.
  • Ensure accounting and payroll practices follow applicable policies, procedures, internal controls, and federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Identify process improvements, strengthen accounting procedures, and recommend solutions that improve accuracy, efficiency, and accountability.
  • Serve as a lead resource for accounting questions, issue resolution, audits, documentation requests, and cross-functional coordination.
  • Perform any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • 3-years of Proven experience in a task-oriented, leadership role within accounting operations or a similar field
  • Strong project management and organizational skills
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative without requiring constant oversight
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy
  • Proficiency with relevant tools and software related to accounting management

Physical Demands:

The employee must be able to physically perform the essential functions of the job, including but not limited to: While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently required to sit, use computers, answer phone calls, actively engage with members, teammates and supervisors, attend meetings. The employee is occasionally required to use repetitive movements to complete tasks. Sitting or standing for prolonged periods. Frequently lifting/moving items up to 25 lbs (e.g., boxes, office equipment). Reaching, bending, walking, and carrying items across office premises. Operating standard office equipment such as copiers, scanners, and phones. Engage in prolonged and repetitive computer use, including typing and data entry. Maintain visual focus for extended periods while reading documents, screens, and spreadsheets. Perform tasks requiring fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. Must be flexible with work schedule to meet the demands of the position, 40-hour work week.
