Part-Time | School-Year Position

Organization: Gathering Outreach Community Services

Program: Gathering Kids Afterschool Program

Position Overview

Are you a current paraprofessional, instructional aide, classroom assistant, or other school support professional looking to earn additional income while continuing to make a difference in students' lives?

Gathering Outreach Community Services is seeking dedicated education professionals to join our Afterschool Program team. This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy working with elementary-aged students and want to extend their impact beyond the school day in a fun, structured, and engaging environment.

As an Afterschool Program Team Member, you will help provide academic support, enrichment activities, recreation, and positive mentorship while creating a safe and welcoming environment for students.

Schedule

* Monday–Friday

* Approximately **2:45 PM – 6:30 PM**

* School-year position

* Additional hours may be available during teacher workdays, school breaks, and summer programming.


Primary Responsibilities

* Supervise and engage elementary-aged students during after-school programming.

* Assist students with homework and academic enrichment.

* Lead or support arts and crafts, STEM, fitness, recreation, leadership, and enrichment activities.

* Encourage positive behavior using proactive classroom management strategies.

* Maintain a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment.

* Communicate professionally with program leadership and families as needed.

* Assist with student check-in, attendance, snack distribution, transitions, and dismissal.

* Follow all Gathering Outreach Community Services policies and school district procedures.

* Serve as a positive role model for students through professionalism, leadership, and integrity.

Preferred Qualifications

Ideal candidates include:

* Current or former paraprofessionals.

* Instructional aides or classroom assistants.

* Substitute teachers.

* Teacher assistants.

* Other K–12 education professionals.

Candidates should also possess:

* Experience working with elementary-aged children.

* Strong classroom management and student engagement skills.

* Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

* Reliability, professionalism, and flexibility.

* Ability to successfully complete all required background screenings and onboarding requirements.

Requirements:

Job Requirements

To be successful in this role, candidates should meet the following qualifications:

* Currently employed as a paraprofessional, instructional aide, teacher assistant, substitute teacher, or other K–12 school support professional preferred.

* High school diploma or GED required; associate's degree or higher is a plus.

* Minimum of one year of experience working with elementary-aged children in a school, childcare, camp, or youth development setting preferred.

* Available to work weekday afternoons from approximately 2:45 PM to 6:30 PM during the school year.

* Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with children while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.

* Strong classroom management and behavior guidance skills.

* Excellent communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.

* Dependable, punctual, and committed to maintaining a safe and positive environment for students.

* Ability to lead or assist with homework support, recreational activities, enrichment clubs, and student engagement.

* Ability to remain active throughout the shift, including standing, walking, bending, lifting up to 25 pounds, and participating in indoor and outdoor activities.

* Must successfully complete all required background checks and onboarding requirements before beginning employment.

* Reliable transportation to assigned program location(s).

* Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism while working with students, families, school personnel, and fellow staff members.

Additional qualifications are a plus:

  • Experience working with students receiving special education services.
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Experience supporting students with ADHD, autism, or other diverse learning needs.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
  • Experience leading enrichment activities such as STEM, arts and crafts, sports, music, dance, or tutoring.
