Charge Nurse - Emergency Department

Location: Boone, North Carolina | Full-Time, Non-exempt | Nights, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM

What You'll Do as a Team Leader

  • Coordinate all aspects of patient care, including staffing, physician and employee engagement, and task delegation.
  • Provide direct and indirect nursing care that meets patients' physical, psychosocial, and restorative needs.
  • Serve as a role model for staff, leading through example in the delivery of patient care.
  • Act as a liaison between the multidisciplinary team, patients, families, and physicians to ensure high-quality care.
  • Respond quickly and accurately to changes in patient condition or emergencies.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, visitors, colleagues, and physicians.
  • Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements, practicing within the scope of licensure.
  • Maintain a healthy work environment by promoting professionalism, accountability, and effective delegation.

Qualifications

  • Education:
    • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience.
    • Prior experience demonstrating increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Licensure/Certifications:
    • Current RN licensure in North Carolina.
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association required at time of hire.
    • Advanced certifications (ACLS, PALS, CCRN, etc.) required within one (1) year of hire.
  • Skills & Abilities:
    • Strong communication skills; ability to work courteously and effectively with patients, families, staff, and physicians.
    • Competence in delivering safe, effective patient care within the legal scope of licensure and certifications.
    • Knowledge of the continuum of nursing care provided in the patient care department.
    • Exceptional customer service for patients, families, staff, and physicians.

Physical & Work Environment

  • Prolonged standing and walking, often 8+ hours per shift; frequent bending, squatting, twisting, and turning.
  • Lift, position, and transfer 50+ lbs; manual dexterity and mobility required.
  • Near visual acuity required.
  • Regular exposure to bloodborne pathogens, chemicals, and hazards from electrical/mechanical equipment; slippery surfaces.
  • Occasional exposure to vibration, cramped spaces, and ionizing/nonionizing radiation (e.g., x-ray, microwave).
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
