Job Description

Senior DevOps Engineer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer based in the United States.

This is a hands-on opportunity for a senior DevOps professional to design, operate, and continuously improve scalable cloud and Kubernetes environments. You will play a key role in shaping reliable infrastructure, automation, deployment workflows, security, and observability practices. Working across development and platform teams, you will help strengthen cloud-native systems while improving developer experience and reducing operational complexity. The role offers significant autonomy, requiring sound technical judgment and the ability to navigate ambiguous challenges independently. You will also leverage modern AI-assisted engineering tools to accelerate troubleshooting, infrastructure development, documentation, and delivery. This position is ideal for an experienced engineer who enjoys solving complex infrastructure problems and driving practical, production-ready improvements.

Accountabilities
  • Design, implement, operate, and automate AWS cloud infrastructure using Terraform across services including EC2, S3, EKS, ECR, Route 53, IAM, networking, and security components.
  • Own Kubernetes and EKS platform operations, including cluster lifecycle management, upgrades, node strategies, autoscaling, workload scheduling, capacity planning, performance optimization, and cost management.
  • Develop and maintain Kubernetes capabilities covering networking, ingress, DNS, service discovery, RBAC, policy enforcement, secrets management, and consistent multi-environment configurations.
  • Build and improve deployment workflows using Helm, Kustomize, GitLab CI/CD, and GitOps technologies such as Argo CD or Flux.
  • Implement and evolve observability solutions covering metrics, logging, alerting, dashboards, system health monitoring, and incident diagnostics.
  • Support Kubernetes-based applications by improving deployment strategies, scaling, runtime efficiency, resilience, and day-to-day operational reliability.
  • Strengthen cloud and Kubernetes security through least-privilege IAM, secrets management, image and artifact scanning, admission controls, policy-as-code, workload isolation, and runtime hardening.
  • Support the reliability, availability, backup integrity, and performance of PostgreSQL/RDS environments in collaboration with application teams.
  • Partner with development and platform teams to improve cloud-native deployment practices, developer experience, runtime reliability, and operational standards.
  • Investigate incidents and infrastructure or application issues, conduct root cause analysis, and implement preventative improvements to reduce recurring problems.
  • Lead technical decisions within the scope of the role by evaluating tradeoffs, prioritizing work, incorporating stakeholder input, and driving issues through resolution with limited oversight.
  • Use AI-assisted engineering tools to accelerate infrastructure design, Terraform development, Kubernetes troubleshooting, CI/CD improvements, observability analysis, and operational documentation while validating outputs for security, accuracy, maintainability, and production readiness.
  • Document and continuously refine DevOps methodologies, infrastructure standards, deployment processes, operational procedures, and support runbooks.
Requirements
  • 7+ years of professional experience in DevOps, platform engineering, SRE, or a related discipline, with demonstrated experience designing and operating scalable cloud infrastructure.
  • Strong expertise with AWS, including EC2, S3, EKS, ECR, Route 53, IAM, core networking, and cloud security concepts.
  • Advanced hands-on Kubernetes experience, including production cluster operations, upgrades, autoscaling, networking, ingress, RBAC, policy enforcement, and workload management.
  • Strong Terraform experience covering infrastructure-as-code, environment management, and repeatable platform provisioning.
  • Experience with Helm, Kustomize, GitLab CI/CD, and GitOps methodologies using Argo CD, Flux, or comparable technologies.
  • Strong observability experience with tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, or equivalent monitoring and logging platforms.
  • Experience with Kubernetes ecosystem technologies such as ingress controllers, operators, Cluster Autoscaler, or Karpenter.
  • Strong PostgreSQL/RDS experience, including operational support, reliability, and performance tuning.
  • Solid understanding of cloud and container security practices, including IAM least privilege, secrets management, image scanning, admission controls, and policy enforcement.
  • Strong scripting and automation capabilities using Python, Bash, or similar languages.
  • Practical experience with AI-assisted engineering tools, including LLMs, code assistants, and workflow automation, combined with the judgment to validate and refine AI-generated outputs.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment and make effective technical decisions when requirements or circumstances are ambiguous.
  • Experience with GCP or Azure, relevant AWS/Kubernetes/Terraform certifications, internal platform engineering, developer self-service, incident response, or regulated enterprise environments is desirable.
  • Bachelor’s degree is preferred but not required.
  • Must be able to work Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM Eastern Time.
  • Must be able to work on a W2 basis; C2C and third-party vendor arrangements are not accepted.
Benefits
  • Remote opportunity available anywhere in the United States, subject to the required Eastern Time working schedule.
  • Contract engagement with a pay rate of $66.51–$89.79 per hour.
  • Standard work schedule of Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM Eastern Time.
  • Opportunity to work on complex AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, CI/CD, observability, and cloud-native engineering initiatives.
  • Exposure to modern AI-assisted engineering practices and technologies.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred but not mandatory.
  • Equal employment opportunity and consideration for qualified applicants in accordance with applicable laws.
