This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Mainframe Systems Programmer – CICS based in United States.
This is an opportunity for an experienced mainframe professional to provide critical technical support for CICS environments and related OEM software products.
You will work with enterprise z/OS environments, supporting customers across multiple time zones and operational requirements.
The role combines systems programming, software installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and migration support.
You will contribute to customer transitions, operating system upgrades, disaster recovery activities, and ongoing platform optimization.
Success in this position requires strong technical judgment, analytical thinking, and the ability to manage priorities in high-pressure situations.
The environment is collaborative and client-facing, with opportunities to work independently while partnering with project managers and other technical teams.
This is a remote U.S. position with on-call, overtime, and scheduled weekend responsibilities.
- Provide technical support for CICS Transaction Server (CICS TS) and related OEM software products across enterprise z/OS environments.
- Fulfill customer service requests and resolve reported technical issues in a timely manner while maintaining high service standards.
- Install, configure, maintain, upgrade, and enhance CICS TS and applicable vendor software in accordance with established procedures and best practices.
- Support 24/7/365 operations across multiple time zones, including on-call coverage, scheduled weekends, and overtime when required.
- Assist with customer migrations and transitions by identifying and resolving technical challenges without disrupting project timelines or targeted migration dates.
- Collaborate with project managers and other functional teams to prepare customer environments for operating system upgrades and other planned changes.
- Execute tasks associated with customer disaster recovery plans in coordination with disaster recovery teams.
- Implement vendor fixes, product corrections, upgrades, and new functionality in accordance with IT service management and change-control procedures.
- Follow established schedules and procedures to ensure efficient use of technical resources and timely implementation of changes.
- Contribute to proactive maintenance and optimization activities that improve the stability, performance, and scalability of customer mainframe environments.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent professional experience.
- At least 5 years of hands-on experience working on IBM zSeries/mainframe platforms, including installation and maintenance of CICS TS and related OEM products.
- Thorough knowledge of CICS TS capabilities, configuration, installation, tailoring, and operational concepts.
- Strong experience with IBM SMP/E for software installation and maintenance.
- Experience with tools and products used to monitor and manage CICS TS region performance.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to diagnose complex technical issues and determine appropriate solutions.
- Ability to work independently, take ownership of assignments, and manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills for communicating effectively with customers, project managers, and technical teams.
- Ability to collaborate effectively while also operating with minimal supervision in a high-pressure environment.
- Willingness and availability to work an 8:00 AM–5:00 PM local schedule, along with on-call rotations, overtime, and scheduled weekend work.
- Competitive full-time salary range of $65,000–$123,000, with placement based on skills, experience, internal equity, and business needs.
