Who We Seek
Hispanic Federation is seeking a Civic Engagement Lead Canvasser to support community outreach via door knocking, community events, and phone banking. The Lead Canvasser will work closely with the Hispanic Federation Team to create meaningful impact in community outreach to ensure specific, underserved communities participate fully in their civic duty.
The successful candidate will have an understanding of communities in Central Florida, have a commitment to voter engagement, and experience supervising canvassers. The Lead Canvasser will ensure all protocols and procedures are being met and that all canvassers are operating under Hispanic Federation’s code of conduct. Also, the position will support quality assurance and conduct quality control checks throughout the campaign.
The Lead Canvasser shall oversee and support the implementation of nonpartisan voter outreach activities while ensuring that outreach goals, quality standards, and program deliverables are achieved.
Position Location: Orlando, Florida
Start Date: September 14 -October 30, 2026
Compensation: $23.00/hour for approximately 32 hours per week.
Reports to: Director of Community Outreach and Engagement
Job duties and responsibilities
- Support and facilitate the training of canvassers conducting door-to-door canvassing, voter registration outreach, phone banking, and text banking activities.
- Provide ongoing guidance, motivation, and support to canvassers to ensure quality outreach and successful completion of assigned goals.
- Coordinate daily field operations by scheduling canvasser shifts, assigning outreach activities, and maintaining regular communication with field staff throughout the day.
- Prepare and assign voter outreach lists in VAN for door-to-door canvassing, phone banking, and text banking activities, and coordinate outreach schedules with the Civic Engagement team.
- Support onboarding of canvassers, volunteers, and subgrantees on TurboVote voter registration procedures, door-to-door canvassing, phone banking, text banking, data collection, and best practices for nonpartisan voter engagement.
- Monitor canvasser performance and track outreach deliverables to ensure program goals are met, providing coaching and follow-up as needed.
- Support online voter registration efforts by assisting eligible voters with TurboVote and following up with individuals who have not completed their online voter registration.
- Conduct quality assurance follow-up calls for paper voter registration applications to verify completion and ensure compliance with voter registration procedures.
- Ensure all canvassers have the necessary outreach materials, voter education resources, technology, and branded supplies before each shift.
- Accurately maintain outreach records, monitor daily field progress, and communicate program updates, successes, and challenges and create weekly reports for the Civic Engagement leadership team.
- Attend all required meetings, training sessions, and planning sessions related to voter registration, voter education, Get Out The Vote (GOTV), and civic engagement initiatives.
- Ensure that all outreach activities are conducted in compliance with organizational policies, IRC Section 501(c)(3) nonpartisan requirements, and all applicable to federal, state, and local election laws and regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the successful implementation of the organization's civic engagement programs and grant objectives.
Skills and Qualifications
- One (1) year of experience with community outreach and engaging Florida’s diverse population around voter registration.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time and as required during community and engagement events.
- Experience overseeing schedules and performance with a focus on positive impacts.
- Comfort driving and possessing a valid driver's license is required.
- Strong understanding of Latino and social justice issues.
- High energy, positive, “can-do” attitude, flexibility, teamwork, and attention to detail; high degree of initiative.
- Ability to speak both English and Spanish is an asset.
- Must be available to work on weekends and evenings.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform duties outdoors in varying weather conditions.
