Job Description

Head of Sales, Renewals

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Head of Sales, Renewals based in United States.

This is a senior commercial leadership opportunity focused on protecting and growing a large recurring-revenue customer base.
You will own the strategy, operating model, and performance of a Renewals organization while leading and developing a team of eight Account Managers.
The role combines strategic leadership with hands-on involvement in complex renewals, executive engagements, commercial negotiations, and expansion opportunities.
You will use customer data, usage trends, and market insights to identify risks, strengthen retention, and uncover sustainable growth opportunities.
Working closely with Product, Engineering, Finance, Procurement, and executive stakeholders, you will help shape customer-centric strategies and product priorities.
As a player-coach, you will establish a rigorous operating cadence while stepping into high-impact customer situations where your leadership can materially influence outcomes.
This role is ideal for a commercially driven sales leader who thrives in complex technology environments and is energized by building teams, creating customer value, and driving predictable growth.

Accountabilities:
  • Lead, develop, and scale a team of eight Account Managers by establishing clear expectations, operating rhythms, performance standards, coaching practices, and career development paths.
  • Own the Renewals organization’s strategy, operating model, processes, systems, and performance in alignment with long-term recurring-revenue objectives.
  • Establish a disciplined cadence for renewal and deal inspections, forecasting, account planning, and pipeline reviews to surface risks and opportunities early.
  • Own the accuracy and predictability of the renewal forecast, ensuring strong CRM discipline and clear leadership visibility into renewal health, risks, expansions, and expected outcomes.
  • Personally engage in the most strategic, complex, or at-risk renewals and expansions, supporting executive engagement, negotiation strategy, pricing, usage commitments, and contract structures.
  • Lead commercial strategy for high-value renewals and expansion opportunities while balancing customer value, long-term relationships, deal economics, and business growth.
  • Build a proactive customer-value culture centered on understanding business priorities, product adoption, usage trends, and organizational dynamics.
  • Identify opportunities to expand existing customer relationships through increased adoption of products and services across the portfolio.
  • Coach Account Managers on developing multi-threaded relationships across Product, Engineering, Procurement, Finance, and executive stakeholders.
  • Identify renewal risks early, develop mitigation strategies, and coordinate internal and customer stakeholders around clear paths to resolution.
  • Partner with Product and Engineering leadership to translate renewal insights, customer feedback, and market trends into customer-centric product priorities.
  • Use data and analytics to identify structural risks, market trends, retention drivers, and opportunities for long-term organizational growth.
  • Bring customer and market intelligence into broader commercial and go-to-market planning.
  • Set high standards for commercial excellence, including negotiation, executive engagement, account planning, customer value creation, and business judgment.
  • Serve as a key member of the sales leadership team, contributing to broader go-to-market strategy and the organization’s approach to retaining, growing, and deepening customer relationships.
Requirements:
  • 10+ years of experience in Account Management, Renewals, Customer Growth, enterprise sales, or related commercial functions, including at least 5 years leading and developing high-performing sales teams.
  • Proven track record of delivering strong gross retention, net retention, renewal, and expansion results within complex enterprise software or technology environments.
  • Significant experience managing strategic enterprise renewals involving complex pricing, procurement processes, negotiations, usage commitments, and contractual discussions.
  • Demonstrated player-coach approach, with the ability to lead through others while personally stepping into complex customer, executive, negotiation, and at-risk account situations when needed.
  • Strong understanding of usage-based or consumption-based business models and how customer adoption and usage influence retention, renewals, and expansion.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify commercial and customer risks early, develop mitigation plans, and mobilize stakeholders toward resolution.
  • Strong commercial instincts and a proven ability to uncover expansion opportunities and increase the value of existing customer relationships.
  • Experience building multi-threaded relationships with Product, Engineering, Procurement, Finance, and senior executive stakeholders.
  • Strong executive presence and communication skills, with the ability to lead difficult commercial conversations with customers and senior internal leaders.
  • Ability to influence and orchestrate cross-functional teams without direct authority while creating accountability around customer and business outcomes.
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to turn customer, usage, and market data into actionable business decisions.
  • Background in location technology, developer platforms, cloud infrastructure, or adjacent technical fields is preferred.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-moving environment where customer needs, priorities, and product capabilities continuously evolve.
  • Curious, adaptable, commercially minded, and energized by complex technology and customer environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to build high-performing teams and create a culture of accountability, learning, customer focus, and sustainable performance.
Benefits:
  • Annual on-target compensation ranging from $357,000 to $483,000, with actual compensation determined by qualifications, relevant experience, role scope, market conditions, and work location.
  • Flexible hybrid and remote working options, allowing employees to work from home or periodically from an applicable office.
  • Private medical coverage for employees and dependents.
  • Generous maternity and paternity leave.
  • Fertility and family-building support.
  • Lifestyle Spending Account contributions supporting health, wellness, and personal growth.
  • Mental health support for employees and dependents.
  • Flexible paid time away, company holidays, and generous absence policies.
  • Dedicated paid volunteering time in addition to standard paid time off.
  • Retirement plans with competitive employer matching.
  • Opportunities for professional growth, teaching, learning, and leadership development.
  • Opportunity to shape a high-impact Renewals organization and influence broader go-to-market strategy.
  • Inclusive, collaborative environment that values diverse backgrounds, perspectives, creativity, and individual authenticity.
