Job Description

Description:

Position Summary

The CFO is the senior financial executive for Build Manage and reports directly to the CEO/ownership. This role leads enterprise financial strategy, capital planning, banking, forecasting, performance management and risk. The CFO also leads the Controller and accounting organization, ensuring that financial reporting and job-cost information are accurate while keeping the role focused on forward-looking decisions and enterprise value.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the CEO’s primary financial advisor on growth, pricing, product mix, hiring, major investments, financing, acquisitions, partner transactions and strategic commitments.
  • Lead annual budgeting, multi-year planning and rolling forecasts across all operating companies.
  • Maintain an integrated 13-week cash forecast and longer-range liquidity model by company and consolidated. Manage banking and lender relationships, construction lines, revolving credit, term debt, borrowing bases, covenants, renewals and capital availability.
  • Establish financial guardrails for spec-home starts, land purchases, inventory exposure, leverage, minimum liquidity and market/product concentration.
  • Evaluate land, spec homes, capital projects, equipment, technology and new business opportunities using risk-adjusted return, cash timing and downside scenarios.
  • Monitor spec, land and other inventory by market, model, price point, stage, age, invested cost, expected margin and exit strategy.
  • Lead enterprise performance reporting, connecting financial results to leads, contracts, permits, starts, cycle time, deliveries, closings and purchasing performance.
  • Oversee construction economics, WIP, job-margin trends, cost-to-complete assumptions, uncommitted exposure and margin fade.
  • Govern financial data and systems, including Buildertrend (BT), QuickBooks Enterprise (QB), integrations, dashboards and common KPI definitions.
  • Establish transparent intercompany pricing, shared-cost allocations and performance reporting across Sposen Homes, Shell Build, Design Build, Pool Build and Build Manage.
  • Oversee enterprise risk, treasury controls, fraud prevention, insurance strategy, tax coordination, compliance and business continuity.
  • Recruit, develop and lead the Controller and finance organization, with clear standards for close, reconciliations, job-cost accuracy, AP/AR, inventory and controls.

What Success Looks Like

  • Leadership has a credible forward view of cash, profitability, inventory and risk.
  • Capital is deployed intentionally and within approved return and liquidity guardrails.
  • Financing is sufficient, well-structured and compliant with lender requirements.
  • Material margin deterioration, excess inventory and liquidity pressure are identified early enough to act.
  • Each company’s economics and intercompany relationships are transparent and supportable.
  • The CEO receives clear, independent and decision-ready financial advice.
Requirements:

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, finance or a related field; CPA, CMA and/or MBA strongly preferred.
  • Significant progressive financial leadership experience, including CFO, VP Finance or comparable responsibility.
  • Construction, homebuilding or real-estate finance experience involving job costing, WIP, inventory/CIP, construction lending and project margins.
  • Demonstrated expertise in budgeting, forecasting, cash management, capital planning, banking and executive decision support.
  • Experience leading Controllers and accounting teams in a multi-company or multi-division environment.
  • Strong financial modeling and Excel skills; ability to connect operating assumptions to income statement, balance sheet and cash flow.
  • Working knowledge of QuickBooks Enterprise and Buildertrend, or comparable construction ERP/project-accounting systems.
  • High integrity, sound judgment and the ability to communicate difficult financial facts clearly.

What You Can Expect from Us:

  • Paid time off and holidays
  • Competitive pay and benefits
  • Supportive team environment
  • Opportunities for growth and development
  • A workplace where ideas and initiative are valued
  • A company culture built on respect and teamwork
